Three Blue embroidery is a technique that uses various shades of blue embroidery thread for embroidery. It has a long history was mainly popular in Han clothing during the Qing Dynasty.

据传三蓝绣是受青花瓷器影响而产生。其技法秀出来的纹样，与青花瓷有着异曲同工之妙。只不过青花瓷是以钴料作画，三蓝绣是以蓝色丝线作画。
It is said that the Three Blue Embroidery was influenced by blue and white porcelain. The patterns displayed by its techniques have a similar charm to blue and white porcelain. However, blue and white porcelain is painted with cobalt material, while triple blue embroidery is painted with blue silk thread.
所谓“三”，乃约数，取多意。 民国时期沈寿撰《雪宧绣谱》中称：“若普通品之用全三蓝者，由三四色至十余色，于蓝之中分深、浅、浓、淡之差。可与和者，惟墨、白二色。绣之粗者，但三四色，用齐针已足。渐精则色渐多，须用齐针单套针二法。”
The so-called "three" refers to the approximate number, meaning multiple. During the Republic of China period, Shen Shou wrote the "Xue Xi Xiu Pu", which stated: "If an ordinary product uses all three shades of blue, ranging from three or four to more than ten shades, there are differences between deep, light, thick, and light shades within the blue. The only colours that can be mixed are ink and white. Using a uniform needle is sufficient for thicker embroidery but three or four shades. As the embroidery becomes more refined, the colours gradually increase, and the uniform needle single set needle two methods must be used.

三蓝绣是在绣制过程中，将多种色度不同的蓝色进行配置，进而绣出的纹样。虽只有蓝色一种色相，但却变幻出丰富的层次来。三蓝绣中的精致程度也体现在其蓝色系绣线上，最多可高达二、三十种。虽然只有单一的色系，三蓝绣却能利用蓝色深浅的不同，来呈现出不同的色彩风格。
Three-blue embroidery is a pattern created by arranging various shades of blue during the embroidery process. Although there is only one colour, blue, it creates rich layers. The exquisite level of Three Blue Embroidery is also reflected in its blue embroidery lines, which can be up to 20-30 types at most. Although there is only a single colour scheme, Three Blue Embroidery can utilise different shades of blue to present different colour styles.

三蓝绣属于苏绣的一种，其主要的针法沿袭苏绣传统针法。三蓝绣有常见的“三蓝打籽绣”“三蓝平金绣”“三蓝圈金打籽绣”等品种。打籽针是三蓝绣经常使用的针法之一，三蓝打籽针就是用三种或以上的色度不同的蓝色绣线，绣线以打结的形式固定在织物表面，无数个结由浅入深紧凑排列形成特殊的图案。这样绣出来的纹样既有三蓝色调的和谐优雅，又有打籽绣的立体感、肌理感，看起来更加精致。
平金绣是用捻金线、捻银线按照画稿的花纹，单根或双根排满绣成，之后再用各种颜色的细线钉在面料上，华丽高贵是这种针法的特点。三蓝圈金打籽绣是圈金、打籽、平金三者结合的绣品。用平金的针法绣出图案的轮廓，再用打籽针把纹样内部填满，奢华富贵是这种针法的特点。这类刺绣的适用面比较广，由于它的装饰成本较高，在清时期多用于皇室服装上。
Three Blue Embroidery belongs to a type of Su embroidery, and its main needlework follows the traditional needlework of Su embroidery. There are common varieties of Three Blue Embroidery, such as Three Blue Seed Embroidery, Three Blue Flat Gold Embroidery, and Three Blue Circle Gold Seed Embroidery. Seed needle is one of the commonly used needlework techniques in tri-blue embroidery. Tri blue seed needle uses three or more different shades of blue embroidery thread, which is fixed on the surface of the fabric in the form of knots. Countless knots are arranged compactly, from light to deep, to form a special pattern. The pattern embroidered in this way has both the harmonious and elegant three-blue tone, as well as the three-dimensional and textured feeling of seed embroidery, making it look more exquisite.
Flat gold embroidery is a technique that uses twisted gold or silver threads to embroider a single or double thread according to the pattern of the artwork and then uses various coloured fine threads to nail it onto the fabric. The characteristic of this needlework is its elegance and nobility. Three Blue Circle Gold Seed Embroidery is a combination of circle gold, seed gold, and flat gold embroidery. Embroidery the outline of the pattern with a flat gold needle and then fill the inside of the pattern with a seed needle. Luxury and wealth are the characteristics of this needle technique. This type of embroidery has a wide range of applications, and due to its high decorative cost, it was mostly used on royal clothing during the Qing Dynasty.
