水拓画全称为大理石纹水拓画(Ebru)艺术，又称湿拓画、水中画、水影画，是一种古老的手工艺术，大约起源于8至9世纪的中国。作为一种独特的绘画技法，水拓画利用水油分层原理制造肌理效果。这种技法是在唐代“墨池法”的基础上发展起来的，具有较强的可塑性和一定的制作特性。
Water painting, full name of marbled water painting (Ebru) art, also known as wet painting, water painting, or water shadow painting, is an ancient manual art which originated in China around the 8th to 9th century. As a unique painting technique, water extension painting uses the principle of water and oil layering to create texture effects. This technique was developed based on the "ink pool method" in the Tang Dynasty and had strong plasticity and certain production characteristics.
14世纪，水拓画经丝绸之路穿越伊朗，带到安纳托利亚，流传到了土耳其。在土耳其，水拓画得到了进一步的发展和传承，成为了土耳其的国宝级艺术。
In the 14th century, aqua paintings were carried through Iran via the Silk Road to Anatolia and then to Turkey. In Turkey, water painting has been further developed and inherited and has become a national treasure.

2014年，联合国教科文组织正式将水拓画列入世界非物质文化遗产名录，这进一步提升了水拓画的艺术地位和影响力，也促使更多的人了解和认识这一古老的艺术形式。
In 2014, UNESCO officially included Shuituo painting in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which further enhanced the artistic status and influence of Shuituo painting and also promoted more people to understand and recognise this ancient art form.

Drawing process
水拓画的笔刷由马鬃和玫瑰花枝制成，画锥有六把，从发丝一般细至小指一般粗，水介质是用植物黏合粉和水调制，颜料则使用牛胆汁调和。
The brush is made of horse hair and rose branches, with six cones ranging from hair to pinky. The water medium is mixed with plant adhesive powder and water, and the pigment is mixed with cow bile.
作画时用笔刷将颜料甩撒在液体表面，形成大理石花纹的背景色，再拿画锥蘸颜料在水面背景色上画花，画完之后将纸放置在水面上，浸染后拎起，整幅画就完整地拓在了纸上，最后晾干即可
When painting, use a brush to sprinkle the paint on the liquid surface to form a marbled background colour, and then dip the painted cone into the paint on the water background colour to draw flowers, after painting, place the paper on the water surface, and pick up after dyeing, the whole painting will be completely spread on the paper, and finally dry
