The history of Lu Jin can be traced back to ancient times. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the textile industry in Shandong had already reached a considerable scale. At that time, the state of Qi was famous for its "crown, belt, clothing, and shoes", which laid a solid foundation for the emergence and development of Lu brocade. Over the long years, Lu brocade has been passed down and developed among the people. It is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of rural women. In the past, Lu brocade was an indispensable item in people's daily lives, from clothing to bedding, from leather bags to decorative fabrics, Lu brocade's presence can be found. It satisfies people's living needs in the simplest way possible while also incorporating their aspirations and expectations for a better life. With the changes of the times, although the modern textile industry has become increasingly developed, Lu brocade still shines brightly on the stage of intangible cultural heritage due to its unique cultural charm and the preciousness of manual skills.

独具匠心的工艺特质
（一）棉花种植与采摘：
鲁锦的制作首先从棉花开始。棉农们精心种植棉花，待棉花成熟后进行采摘。采摘下来的棉花要经过去籽等初步处理，得到纯净的棉纤维。
（1） Cotton planting and harvesting:
The production of Lu brocade begins with cotton. Cotton farmers carefully plant cotton and harvest it after it matures. The picked cotton needs to undergo preliminary treatments such as seed removal to obtain pure cotton fibres.
（二）弹棉花：
这一工序是将棉花纤维弹松，使棉花变得松软均匀，便于后续的加工。弹棉花的工具主要有弹弓等，弹棉师傅凭借熟练的技巧，将棉花弹成蓬松的棉絮状。
（2） Cotton bouncing:
This process is to loosen the cotton fibres, making the cotton soft and uniform for subsequent processing. The main tools for picking cotton include slingshots, etc. Cotton-picking masters used skilled techniques to pick cotton into fluffy cotton fibres.
（三）搓棉条：
把弹好的棉絮搓成一根根棉条，棉条的粗细均匀程度会影响到后续纺线的质量。
（3） Rubbing cotton strips:
Rub the elastic cotton fibres into cotton strips, and the uniformity of the thickness of the cotton strips will affect the quality of the subsequent spinning.
（四）纺线：
通过纺车将棉条纺成线。纺线时，一手转动纺车，一手拿着棉条，棉条在旋转中被拉伸并捻成线。这一过程需要耐心与技巧，线的粗细和均匀度取决于纺线者的经验。
（4） Spinning thread:
Spinning cotton strips into threads using a spinning wheel. When spinning, one hand rotates the spinning wheel, and the other holds a cotton strip, which is stretched and twisted into thread during rotation. This process requires patience and skill, and the thickness and uniformity of the thread depend on the experience of the spinner.
（五）染线：
为了使鲁锦色彩丰富，需要对纺好的线进行染色。传统的染色使用天然植物染料，如从蓼蓝中提取蓝色等。染线时要掌握好染料的比例、温度和染色时间等，以获得理想的色彩效果。
（5） Dyeing line:
To enrich the colour of Lu brocade, it is necessary to dye the spun thread. Traditional dyeing uses natural plant dyes, such as extracting blue from polygonum blue. When dyeing lines, it is important to master the proportion of dye, temperature, and dyeing time to achieve the desired colour effect.
（六）整经：
将染好色的线按照一定的顺序和张力排列在经轴上，为织布做准备。整经要求线排列整齐、张力均匀，否则会影响织布的质量。
（6） Whole Scripture:
Arrange the dyed threads in a certain order and tension on the warp to prepare for weaving. The warp requires a neat arrangement of threads and even tension. Otherwise, it will affect the quality of the woven fabric.
（七）织布：
这是鲁锦制作的关键环节。织布时，织工坐在织布机上，手脚并用，穿梭引线。通过不同颜色线的搭配与交织，形成各种图案与纹理。常见的鲁锦图案有棋盘格、枣花纹、水纹等，这些图案蕴含着吉祥、美好的寓意。
（7） Weaving:
This is a crucial step in the production of Lu brocade. When weaving, the weaver sits on the loom and uses both hands and feet to shuttle the threads. By combining and interweaving different coloured lines, various patterns and textures are formed. Common patterns of Lu brocade include checkerboard patterns, jujube patterns, water patterns, etc. These patterns contain auspicious and beautiful meanings.

2. 图案之韵：其图案丰富多样，具有浓郁的地方特色和民俗风情。棋盘格图案规整有序，体现出一种简洁的秩序美；枣花纹寓意着多子多福，充满了对生活的美好祝愿；水纹则灵动流畅，仿佛赋予了织物以生命的活力。这些图案或抽象或具象，都是劳动人民对生活、对自然的观察与感悟的结果，反映了他们内心深处的情感与诉求。
2. Rhyme of patterns: Its patterns are rich and diverse, with strong local characteristics and folk customs. The checkerboard pattern is neat and orderly, reflecting a simple beauty of order. The jujube pattern symbolises many children and blessings, full of good wishes for life. The water pattern is lively and smooth, as if endowing the fabric with vitality. These patterns, whether abstract or concrete, are the result of the observations and perceptions of the working people towards life and nature, reflecting their deep-seated emotions and demands.
3. 技艺之精：从棉花到鲁锦成品，要经历多道复杂工序，每一道工序都凝聚着工匠们的心血与智慧。纺线的均匀、染色的精准、织布时图案的编织与呈现，无不展示出手工技艺的精湛与高超。鲁锦的制作没有精确的仪器与现代工业的辅助，仅凭工匠们的双手和经验，却能创造出如此精美的艺术品，这是人类手工技艺的卓越体现。
3. The essence of craftsmanship: From cotton to finished Lu brocade, it requires multiple complex processes, each of which embodies the hard work and wisdom of craftsmen. The uniformity of spinning, the precision of dyeing, and the weaving and presentation of patterns during weaving all demonstrate exquisite and superb craftsmanship.
