On May 27th, the first TEDxFDIS speech event took place on campus, marking a significant moment for our community to engage in dialogue centered around the theme of "Renewal." With approximately
100 attendees from our community and distinguished guests, the event was an inspiring gathering of minds eager to exchange ideas.

How Did We Select the
6 Speakers?
我们如何选出六位演讲者的?
在两个多月的时间里,我们的评审团选出了代表小学、初中和高中不同年龄段的六位演讲者。每一位演讲者在演讲内容、舞台表现力和演讲技巧方面赢得了评审团的青睐,成功取得了首届TED活动的入门券。
Over more than two months, our judging panel selected a lineup of six speakers representing various age groups from elementary, middle, and high school. Each
speaker was chosen based on their content, stage presence, and speech skills, ensuring a diverse and dynamic range of perspectives on the theme of "Renewal."

personal growth or social and technological advancements. Yuyan Yao and Summer Tan from G10 hosted the event.

During the first session, attendees were treated to a surprise: a mysterious guest speaker whose insights left a lasting impact. Dr. Gao Jun, an esteemed associate professor from the Department of Psychology at Fudan University, took the stage to deliver a thought-provoking talk titled "Make Your Heart Heard." Dr. Gao examined the intriguing paradox surrounding the
lives of some exceptionally talented students. Despite their outward appearance of success, she illuminated the inner turmoil they often grapple with — feelings of anxiety, self-criticism, and a tendency towards procrastination. With astute analysis, she unveiled the complexities of this double life, urging for a more compassionate and balanced approach to personal growth.

Hilary Zhuang from G2 Koala, the youngest speaker among the six, explained how ecosystems can heal and renew after disturbances like wildfires. She introduced the amazing ways forests bounce back and support
diverse species, highlighting the importance of planting and protecting trees. Hilary's talk inspired us to recognize our connections within ecosystems and encourage us to take small actions that contribute to environmental renewal.

来自四年级企鹅班的 Kyle Zhang(人称“KB”)分享了他通过篮球实现“又日新”的心路历程。Kyle强调了“旦复旦兮,日月光华”这一格言给我们的启示,他用自己的亲身经历说明了“又日新”这一概念是如何在球场内外与他的成长密不可分的。通过设定目标、寻求指导、迎接挑战和保持动力,他向大家展示了我们如何发展自己的潜能。
Kyle Zhang from G4 Penguin, known as KB, shared his journey of embracing renewal through basketball. Reflecting our school motto, "itinerant as the twilight, the sun glows and the moon luminesces," Kyle illustrated how the concept of renewal has been integral to his growth both on and off the court.
By setting goals, seeking guidance, embracing challenges, and staying motivated, he demonstrated how we can all unlock our potential.

Emily Wang from G6A. She shared her transformative journey from the US to China. She has overcome the fear of change, discovered new friendships, and learned to see change as an opportunity for growth.
Drawing on personal experiences and the "Little Albert Experiment," she emphasized the power of embracing and adapting to change to turn challenges into opportunities and find beauty in unexpected places.

He emphasized the collective effort required to ensure technology serves as a force for good. Sean called on students to recognize their vital role in shaping a sustainable, ethical future.

In a heartwarming conclusion to the event, the Vice Principal of FDFZ and Director of Fudan International School, Li Jun, took to the stage to recognize the outstanding performances of both the student speakers and the guest speaker. With genuine appreciation, Li Jun presented the coveted "Best Speaker" award to each of the six student speakers,
acknowledging their exceptional talent, passion, and dedication in delivering impactful talks that resonated deeply with the audience. Director Li Jun also bestowed the "Honorable Guest Speaker" award upon Dr. Gao Jun, acknowledging her invaluable insights and profound contribution to the event.
