英国诗人菲利普·拉金（Philip Larkin, 1922-1985）被认为是T. S.艾略特之后最有影响的诗人，一个写寻常的大师。拉金这一代的诗，在英国被称为运动派，以日常语言反映日常生活中的普通人，从最细节的日常层面关注并呈现社会以及其中的普通人普通情感。他的诗大多数是押韵的，这里的诗也如此。例如，第一首的韵格是ABABA，CDCDC，但是我的译文没有刻意要再现句末押韵，主要是我觉得现代诗歌中的韵律更重要的是一种自然而丰满的节律感，不拘泥于尾韵。
