传统柳编的原料主要是杞柳。这种植物在东亚广泛分布，为柳编提供了充足的原材料。传统柳编的制作工艺十分精巧，从杞柳的收割、晾晒、剥皮，到编织成型，经过多道复杂工序。编织技法多样，包括平编、绞编、勒编等多种方法，编织出的产品有各种造型，如篮子、筐子、箱子等。

The production process of traditional willow weaving is very exquisite, from the harvesting, drying, and peeling, to the weaving and forming of the willow, through several complex processes. There are various weaving techniques, including flat weaving, twisting weaving, strangulation and other methods, and the woven products have various shapes, such as baskets, baskets, boxes, etc.
制作柳编时要选择合适的柳条，如杞柳、沙柳、白柳等。一般在伏天选料，此时柳条较为成熟，剥皮容易，颜色白，直径通常在1毫米到5毫米之间，长度60厘米左右。
