简介
Introduction
Gilded silver and gold is a traditional Chinese technique that uses bronze or jade as the base material. Intricate patterns are engraved into the surface, creating grooves into which gold or silver sheets are inlaid. This art form seeks to achieve a seamless and harmonious aesthetic.

Historical Development
The gilded silver and gold technique can be traced back to prehistoric inlaid artifacts.
During the Bronze Age of Chinese civilisation, aristocrats pioneered the practice of inlaying turquoise into bronze objects, marking the beginning of the "gold-inlaid jade" tradition.
This craftsmanship was inherited and refined during the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, eventually evolving into the technique of gilded silver and gold inlay. It reached its pinnacle during the Tang Dynasty.
In 2014, this craft was officially recognised as part of China's National Intangible Cultural Heritage in the fourth batch of entries approved by the State Council.

Production Process
预刻 将母范预刻出凹槽 注入青铜溶液 凝固后出现凹槽;
Pre-Engraving
A mold is pre-engraved with grooves.
Bronze liquid is poured into the mold, solidifying to form recessed patterns.
錾槽 铸成的凹槽并不平整 加工錾凿变成精细的纹饰。錾凿前在青铜器表面用墨笔绘出纹样,根据纹样刻镂;
Chiseling
The cast grooves are not smooth and must be refined with precise chiseling.
The patterns are drawn onto the bronze surface with ink and then carved carefully.
镶嵌 用金银丝或金片进行镶嵌 复杂的纹样金丝要分成很多段 小锤不断捶打 不断观察金丝与凹槽是否匹配 镶嵌是否紧密 任何小的失误都可能造成金丝脱落;
Inlaying
Gold or silver wires (or sheets) are embedded into the grooves.
For complex patterns, the gold wire must be divided into numerous sections.
A small hammer is used to tap the inlay repeatedly, ensuring it fits tightly into the grooves.
Even the slightest mistake may result in the gold wire detaching from the base.
Polishing
After inlaying, the bronze surface is uneven and must be smoothed with a polishing stone.
The goal is to make the gold or silver inlay flush with the bronze surface, achieving a seamless finish.
