观看欲望:通往后视觉的情欲研究
With the popularity of hard-core pornography in the digital age, scholarly research has been increasingly concerned with the issue of gender representation in such erotic texts. In China, although any form of porn is still illegal, young people are extensively exposed to sexually explicit materials. Thereinto, Japanese Adult Video (JAV), with an East Asian set of ideologies and bodily aesthetics, is one of the most widespread categories and has a profound impact on its audiences and the production of other genres of porn in China. However, limited research has investigated this transnational consumption of pornography, especially in the Chinese context.
This sharing is based on a study conducted by me for my undergraduate thesis. In this study, I explored how male audiences perceive gender power dynamics and representations in Japanese AV through interviews supplemented by online observations. By dialoguing with theories of “erotic literacy,” reality and fantasy, and suspension, I propose that pornography viewers exhibit a unique pattern that allows them to cope with the disconnect between erotic fantasy and reality while realizing a sustained enjoyment of pornography.
Now, I will also focus on sharing two aspects of my own critique of this research: on a possible methodological attitudinal fallacy and a perspectivism bias in the selection of topics. Of course, I will also respond to both critiques and point to my personal preference for a new path in pornography studies-a path toward a post-perspectivism pornography studies.
