难得是第二段的取舍。
结尾结在何处？是村民们边工作，孩子们边嬉闹，然后就把堤坝建起，最后发表一番感慨？
还是让堤坝建成之后经历一次真正的考验，验明本色？
这个取舍涉及到情节分配。
前者会更活泼，也更顺利。后者剧情密度大，也更费一些心思。
最终我还是选择了后者。

下面是我的续写尝试
Para 1: Upon returning to the village, Steven immediately started to solve the problem.
Gathering the villagers beneath the ancient baobab tree where his dream once burgeoned into life, he painted a vivid picture of a dam that could hold rainwater and revive their struggling cornfields. At first, skepticism rippled through the crowd, especially from the older men, arms crossed and brows furrowed. Yet, his father, standing at the edge, felt a stirring of pride and concern as he listened. As Steven spoke of flourishing crops and taming floods, doubt began to wane, replaced by whispers of “What if?”—a spark of hope igniting in the villagers' hearts.
Para 2: After knowing the project, all the villagers joined in the construction of the dam.
Hands once calloused by labor now wielded shovels and stones, each a step toward change. Yet, just as the dam took shape, one night, a storm came, transforming the gentle stream into a raging river. Steven, like so many, didn’t steal a wink. When the storm relented, the villagers emerged cautiously to survey the aftermath. To their relief, the dam had held strong, cradling the floodwater and keeping the fields largely untouched. As they stood together, silently acknowledging their triumph, Steven realized they had forged not just a barrier but also bonds that would endure even the fiercest of storms.
