The Buddha came to the Heavenly Palace at the command of the Jade Emperor, calling for the heavenly generals to stop and summoned Sun Wukong before him.
如来奉玉帝旨意来到天宫，叫众天将停手，把孙悟空叫到面前。
He asked, "You monkey, why are you causing such chaos in the Heavenly Palace?"
他问道：“你这猴头，为何要大闹天宫？”
Sun Wukong, undaunted, replied, "If you make me the Jade Emperor, I will stop; otherwise, I will ensure that the Heavenly Palace is never peaceful!"
孙悟空毫不畏惧地说：“如果让我做玉皇大帝，我就不再闹了，否则我让天宫永不太平！”
Upon hearing this, the Buddha laughed heartily and questioned, "What abilities do you have to claim the Heavenly Palace and become the Jade Emperor?"
如来听后哈哈大笑，质疑道：“你有什么能耐，竟要占据天宫，当玉皇大帝！”
Proudly, Sun Wukong boasted, "My abilities are great! I can change into seventy-two forms and leap a hundred thousand miles in a single bound."
孙悟空得意扬扬地说：“我的能耐可大了，能七十二般变化，一个筋斗十万八千里。”
Seeing this, the Buddha told Sun Wukong, "If you can leap out of my palm, I will make you the Jade Emperor."
如来见状，对孙悟空说：“你能翻出我的手掌，就让你当玉皇大帝。”
Wukong looked at the Buddha's hand, which was no bigger than a lotus leaf, and thought to himself: With my one leap covering a hundred thousand miles, I could jump over a hundred thousand of these hands!
悟空看那如来的手，还没有荷叶大，心中暗想：我一个筋斗十万八千里，别说这小小的手掌，就是十万个这样的手掌，我也一下能跳过去。
So he readily agreed. Sun Wukong jumped onto the Buddha's palm and flipped several times.
于是满口答应下来。孙悟空跳上如来的手掌，连翻几个筋斗。
Suddenly, he saw five red pillars in front of him and thought: I’ve reached the end of the heavens; I should leave a mark so the Buddha cannot go back on his word.
忽然看见前面有五根红柱子，心想：已经到了天尽头，让我做个记号，叫如来不能反悔。
He plucked a hair from his body and turned it into a brush, writing "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven was here."
他拔下一根毫毛，变成毛笔，在柱上写下 “齐天大圣到此一游” 几个字。
When he returned to the Buddha's hand and said, "Now give me the Heavenly Palace!"
等他回到佛祖手中说：“你把天宫给我吧！”
The Buddha calmly replied, "Look down at my fingertip."
佛祖淡定地说：“你低头看看我的手指。”
Wukong looked down and saw the words "The Great Sage Equal to Heaven was here" written on the Buddha's fingertip.
悟空低头一看，如来手指上赫然写着 “齐天大圣到此一游”。
Wukong was shocked and tried to escape, but the Buddha turned his hand, and his five fingers instantly transformed into the Five Elements Mountain, trapping Wukong beneath, leaving only his head outside with a talisman bearing six characters.
悟空大吃一惊，想要溜走，如来把手一翻，五指瞬间变成五行山把悟空压住，只留个脑袋在外面，上面还贴了一张六字咒语的帖子。
From then on, Sun Wukong was trapped under the Five Elements Mountain, unable to free himself.
从此，孙悟空被困在五行山，难以脱身。
