万源协和学子辩论团赴香港参赛SUIS WY Students participate HK Debate Competition

2024年8月，夏日炎炎。上海市民办万源城协和双语学校辩论代表团远赴中国香港参加由亚洲思辨教育学会主办，中华口语沟通教育学会协办的“十荡十决”环球中文青少年辩论锦标赛。

August 2024, scorching summer. The debate delegation of SUIS WY went to Hong Kong, China to participate the "10^th Global Debate" Global Chinese Youth Debate Championship, hosted by the Asian Society for Critical Education and co organized by the Chinese Society for Oral Communication Education.

万源协和队作为B组的一员，全体队员于2024年8月7日飞抵香港进行备赛。

SUIS WY, as a member of Group B, all team members flew to Hong Kong on August 7, 2024 for preparation.

2024年8月8日-8月9日，B组初赛如期召开。刘翌阳、郑锦程、张小灯和魏嘉铭作为代表上场辩论。许嘉轩，占博文，顾家宇作为智囊团队员出谋划策。

From August 8^th to August 9^th, 2024, the preliminary round of Group B was held as scheduled. Bonnie Liu, Kevin Zheng, Ada Zhang, and Jimmy Wei participated in the debate as representatives. Simon Xu，Joey Gu and Jason Zhan, as members of the think tank, provided advice and suggestions.

8月8日的辩题为正方“面对生成式AI，我们应该勇于尝试。”而8月9日的辩题为反方“面对生成式AI，我们应该谨慎评估。”

The debate topic on August 8^th is "Faced with generative AI, we should be brave enough to try." The debate topic on August 9^th is "Faced with generative AI, we should evaluate it carefully.’

非常幸运，在各位队友的鼎力合作下，协和万源队顺利晋级16强。

Very fortunate, with the strong cooperation of all teammates, the SUIS WY team successfully entered the round of 16 and obtained the right to participate in the "16 in 8" competition on August 10^th.

在“16进8”比赛的备赛过程中，队友并没有因为辩题的难度上升而畏惧，仍然认真备赛，认真查找资料。

During the preparation process for the "16 in 8" competition, teammates did not fear the increasing difficulty of the debate topic and continued to prepare diligently, searching for information carefully.

值得庆幸的是，当天各位队友的表现依然十分出色。获得胜利，顺利晋级8强。

Fortunately, the performance of all teammates on that day was still outstanding. Successfully won the championship. Winning the right to participate in the "8-to-4" competition.

8月11日，上海民办万源城协和双语学校队和澳洲长老会女子学校队的激烈辩论过后，很不幸，我队输给了对方，对方获胜。最终，上海市民办万源城协和双语学校队以殿军和“最佳团队合作奖”收尾。同时，刘翌阳同学、魏嘉铭同学和张小灯获得“单场最佳辩手”奖。

On August 11th, after a fierce debate between the SUIS WY team and the Australian Presbyterian Girls' School team, unfortunately, our team lost to the other team and the other team won. In the end, the SUIS WY team finished in fourth place and the ‘Best Collaboration Team.’ At the same time, Bonnie Liu, Jimmy Wei, and Ada Zhang won the "Best Debater of a Single Session" award.

作为协和学子, 本人也是非常荣幸地参加了一年一度的中国环球中文辩论赛, 这一次的体验对我来说意义非凡. 第一次参加辩论赛, 难免会有些忐忑不安, 我总是害怕自己会拖累全队的进度, 实话说, 我们学校也是第一次参加大型辩论赛活动, 或多或少没有什么经验, 但是我们所有队员都非常团结, 在这种危难时刻, 团队精神反而至关重要, 其中我与另外一位同学组成的智囊团, 为在前线奋战的辩手们提供宝贵经验和思路, 靠着这种默契, 我们一路披荆斩棘, 闯进8进4决赛, 并拿下了小组第四的好成绩, 这对于第一次参赛的我们来说, 实属不易, 希望下一届, 我能带着协和万源的旗帜挺进决赛!

As a student of SUIS WY, I am also honored to participate in the annual China Global Chinese Debate Competition. This experience is of great significance to me It was my first time participating in a debate competition, and I was inevitably a bit nervous. I was always afraid that I would drag down the progress of the whole team. To be honest, our school was also participating in a large-scale debate competition for the first time, and we had little experience to some extent. However, all of our team members were very united. In this critical moment, team spirit was crucial. Among them, I formed a think tank with another classmate to provide valuable experience and ideas for the debaters fighting on the front line. With this tacit understanding, we overcame all obstacles and made it to the 8th and 4th finals, achieving a good result of fourth place in our group. This is not easy for us as first-time participants. I hope that in the next competition, I can carry the banner of SUIS WY to advance to the finals!

前往香港参加十荡十决環球中文靑少年辩論赛，是我首次外出参与国际型的辩论比赛，比赛的经历让我印象十分深刻。在赛程中与不同学校以及机构的辩论选手比赛，我切身体会到了国际辩论赛的完整流程。比赛过程中，我逐渐熟悉了辩论赛的流程，从准备阶段到与其他选手进行比赛，这些环节都让我受益匪浅。尤其是在与其他优秀选手的答辩以及发言中，我学习到了很多辩论技巧和策略。他们的逻辑思维、语言表达以及临场反应能力都给我留下了深刻的印象。这次比赛不仅让我积累了宝贵的经验，也让我能够在辩论知识方面的缺陷进行反思，从而能让我在辩论能力上有所提升。我相信此次比赛积累的经验今后将对我有很大的帮助。

Going to Hong Kong to participate in the Ten Dang Ten Decisive Global Chinese Youth Debate Competition is my first time participating in an international debate competition, and my experience in the competition has left a deep impression on me. I personally experienced the complete process of international debate competitions by competing with debaters from different schools and institutions during the schedule. During the competition, I gradually became familiar with the process of the debate competition, from the preparation stage to competing with other contestants, all of which benefited me greatly. Especially in the defense and speeches with other outstanding contestants, I have learned a lot of debating skills and strategies. Their logical thinking, language expression, and on-site reaction ability have left a deep impression on me. This competition not only allowed me to accumulate valuable experience, but also enabled me to reflect on my shortcomings in debating knowledge, thereby improving my debating ability. I believe that the experience accumulated from this competition will be of great help to me in the future.

这次辩论比赛带给我的感触还是很值得一提的。整个流程从开始到结束，都完全出乎我的意料。首先，作为我们队伍组建之初就确定的人选之一，我原本就被各位老师和队友寄予厚望。然而进入了暑假，也就是比赛开始前一个月的准备时刻，我却因为个人原因没有给予什么准备。就连至关重要的模拟训练也频频迟到早退，甚至缺席。鉴于我对这次活动不再那么上心，我向老师申请，将自己在队中的身份从辩手改成了替补的“智囊团”。于是我在心中默认了自己不上场，直到我到了比赛举办地-香港，遇见了我的队友们。在比赛开始的前一天晚上，队友们对第二天要打的辩题进行了激烈的讨论，还与另一支队伍私下举办了一场友谊赛。我在一边旁听，很快便被辩手们有趣的话术和强烈的思维碰撞所吸引，在沉浸其中时，还会插两句自己的见解，全然忘记了自己不是辩手。这次经历之后，我对辩论重新燃起了兴趣，队友们也发现了我的热情，于是邀请我上场。我欣然同意，就这样，我的身份经历了一波三折，又变回了辩手。我回辩手行列之后的故事便不必多言了，在四个夜晚里，我们将热情与汗水全部挥洒在那小小的酒店房间中，时常忙碌到凌晨三四点。最终在共同的努力下，我们一路过关斩将，最终止步四强；我们学校除此参加比赛，这已经是很可观的成绩。在这次比赛中，每位辩手都行动力十足，深刻使我明白了如何将热爱付诸实践。与此同时，作为“智囊团”的两位同学虽然没有在赛场上表现，但他们对比赛的持续关心，也时刻反映着团队精神。在此我想要对我们队伍的各位同学说“谢谢！”

The impact of this debate competition on me is still worth mentioning. The entire process, from start to finish, was completely beyond my expectations. Firstly, as one of the candidates confirmed at the beginning of our team's formation, I was already highly anticipated by all the teachers and teammates. However, during the summer vacation, which was one month before the start of the competition, I did not provide much preparation due to personal reasons. Even the crucial simulation training is frequently delayed, left early, and even absent. Considering that I am no longer so focused on this event, I have applied to the teacher to change my role in the team from a debater to a substitute 'think tank'. So I tacitly agreed not to play in my heart until I arrived at the competition venue - Hong Kong and met my teammates. On the evening before the start of the competition, teammates had a heated discussion about the debate topic to be played the next day, and even held a friendly match privately with another team. I listened on the side and was quickly attracted by the interesting language and strong collision of thoughts of the debaters. While immersed in it, I would also interject a few of my own opinions, completely forgetting that I am not a debater. After this experience, I regained my interest in debate and my teammates noticed my passion, so they invited me to play. I gladly agreed, and that's how my identity went through ups and downs before returning to being a debater. After I returned to the ranks of debaters, there is no need to say much about the story. Over the course of four nights, we poured all our passion and sweat into that small hotel room, often busy until three or four in the morning. In the end, with joint efforts, we overcame all obstacles and ultimately reached the top four; Besides participating in competitions, our school has already achieved considerable results. In this competition, every debater was full of action, which made me deeply understand how to put my passion into practice. At the same time, as the "think tank", although the two students did not perform on the field, their continuous concern for the competition also reflects the team spirit at all times. I would like to say 'Thank you!' to all the students in our team.

在这一次的辩论赛中，我全程充当了后勤和智囊团的角色，我坚信这次的场下守候为将来的场上大放异彩打下了坚定的基础。这一次在东方之珠——中国香港，这样一个美丽的地方，万源协和辩论队的队友们竭尽全力获得殿军，我认为这真的是可歌可泣的事情。希望在下一年的辩论赛中，协和的队员们能在比赛场上绽放更美丽的花朵。

In this debate competition, I played the role of logistics and think tank throughout, and I firmly believe that this off field waiting has laid a solid foundation for future brilliance on the field. This time in the Pearl of the Orient - Hong Kong, China, such a beautiful place, the teammates of the SUIS WY Debate Team did their best to win the bronze medal. I think this is truly a touching thing. I hope that in the next year's debate competition, the members of SUIS WY can bloom more beautiful flowers on the field.

这次带队赴香港参加环球中文青少年辩论赛锦标赛，深感责任重大，也感到十分荣幸被孩子们信任，被学校支持。我们两位带队老师和7位孩子在香港开启了充满挑战和幸运的辩论赛之旅。从32强顺利晋级到16强，再从16强晋级到8强，每一次的上场背后都是团队全力以赴的努力，每一次上场前都备赛至深夜。虽然最终止步全球8强，获得比赛的殿军，但是对孩子们来说，这是一次无比宝贵且荣耀的经验，同时我们也获得了最佳团队奖，三位选手获得了最佳辩手奖，作为老师，为他们感到自豪！也希望在未来的舞台上，他们能够更加自信的表达自己，探索自己！

This time leading the team to participate in the Global Chinese Youth Debate Championship in Hong Kong, I feel a great sense of responsibility and honor to be trusted by the children and supported by the school. Our two leading teachers and seven children embarked on a challenging and fortunate debate competition journey in Hong Kong. Successfully advancing from the round of 32 to the round of 16, and then from the round of 16 to the round of 8, every appearance was the team's full effort, and every time they went on stage, they discussed until late at night. Although we ultimately finished in the top 8 of the world and won the third place in the competition, it was an incredibly valuable and proud experience for the children. At the same time, we also won the Best Team Award, and three contestants won the Best Debater Award. As teachers, we are proud of them! I also hope that in the future stage, they can express themselves more confidently and explore themselves.
