处暑已至,天地间的暑气正慢慢散去,代替暑气的是袅袅清风。天地始肃,秋色也渐渐浓烈起来。为了迎接这样一个美好的季节,孩子们亲手绘制了关于处暑节气的海报,亲手制作了节气美食等,在此次节气实践活动中,孩子们不仅了解了处暑的习俗,还丰富了自己的传统知识,增加了不少劳动技能。

As the "End of Heat" (Chushu) solar term arrives, the lingering summer heat is gradually fading, replaced by gentle, soothing breezes. The atmosphere begins to settle, and the signs of autumn grow more vibrant. To welcome this beautiful season, the children have actively engaged in various activities. They hand-painted posters celebrating the Chushu solar term and crafted traditional seasonal delicacies. Through this hands-on experience, they not only learned about the customs associated with Chushu but also enriched their knowledge of traditional culture and honed their practical skills.

CHU SHU JIE QI

处暑,是二十四节气之中的第十四个节气,交节时间点在公历8月23日前后,太阳到达黄经150°。处暑的“处”是指终止,处暑的意义是夏天暑热正式终止,所以有俗语说:争秋夺暑。在立秋和处暑之间,秋季在某种意义上已经来临,但夏天的暑气仍然未减。

The End of Heat (Chushu), the fourteenth of the twenty-four solar terms, typically falls around August 23rd when the sun reaches 150° of ecliptic longitude. This term signifies the gradual departure of summer's intense heat and the onset of autumn. However, despite the seasonal shift, remnants of summer's warmth still linger in the air.

Three Periods of the Solar Term

处暑分为三候:

一候鹰乃祭鸟;

二候天地始肃;

三候禾乃登。


  1. First Period: The eagle begins to prey on birds.

  2. Second Period: The heavens and earth start to become solemn and austere.

  3. Third Period: The grains ripen and are ready for harvest.

Weather Characteristics

尽管中国大部分的地区日均气温依旧在22摄氏度以上,但北方已经开始逐渐转冷,通常情况下,白天较为炎热,而早晚较凉。在这个季节,鹰开始抓捕其他鸟儿,花草树木都开始逐渐凋谢,小米水稻等农作物开始成熟。

Although the daily average temperature in most parts of China remains above 22°C, the northern regions are gradually cooling down. Typically, the days are still quite warm, while mornings and evenings are cooler. During this season, hawks begin hunting other birds, and plants and trees start to wither. Meanwhile, crops like millet and rice reach their maturity, marking the transition into autumn.


处暑到来,意味着酷热难熬的天气已经到了尾声,虽然在此期间天气还是炎热,但是呈逐渐下降的趋势。

处暑是秋季的第二个节气,是一个温度由热转凉的节气。处暑一过,炎热的夏天会逐渐消失,但是有些年份则会很热。

处暑节气到来预示着天气很快就会凉快,但人们通常会在处暑后再次感受到高温天气。这样的天气通常被称为“秋老虎”。

The arrival of Chushu marks the beginning of the end for the scorching heat of summer. Although the weather remains hot during this period, the temperatures gradually start to decline.

Chushu, the second solar term of autumn, signifies a seasonal shift from hot to cool temperatures. As soon as Chushu passes, the intense heat of summer typically starts to fade away. However, in some years, the heat can persist.

The arrival of the Chushu solar term indicates that cooler weather is on the horizon. Yet, it's common for people to experience a resurgence of high temperatures after Chushu, a phenomenon often referred to as the "Autumn Tiger."

Customs and Food Traditions of the Solar Terms



放河灯



Offering Lotus Lanterns

河灯也叫“荷花灯”,一般是在底座上放灯盏或蜡烛,中元夜将荷花灯放在江河湖海之中,任其漂泛,以此缅怀先人,祈求平安。

The "Lotus Lantern," also known as the "River Lantern," is a traditional custom during the Zhongyuan Festival. Typically, a small oil lamp or candle is placed on the base of a lotus-shaped lantern. On the night of the festival, these lanterns are set adrift on rivers, lakes, or seas, allowing them to float freely. This ritual is performed to honor ancestors and to pray for peace and safety.






出游迎秋



Going outdoors to welcome autumn

处暑之后,秋意渐浓,正是人们畅游郊野迎秋赏景的好时节。处暑过,暑气止,就连天上的那些云彩也显得疏散而自如,不时显现出各种精美巧妙的姿态,而不像夏天大暑之时浓云成块。民间向来就有“七月八月看巧云”之说,其间就有“出游迎秋”之意。

After the End of Heat (Chǔshǔ), the air gradually cools, signaling the deepening of autumn. This is the perfect time for people to venture into the countryside to embrace the season and enjoy the changing scenery. With the passing of Chǔshǔ, the summer heat dissipates, and even the clouds in the sky appear more sparse and free, often forming intricate and delicate patterns—unlike the dense, heavy clouds of the peak summer heat. There is a traditional saying: ‘In the seventh and eighth lunar months, look at the exquisite clouds,’ which carries with it the essence of 'welcoming autumn with an outing.





吃鸭子



Eating duck meat

"七月半鸭,八月半芋",古人认为农历七月中旬的鸭子最为肥美营养。处暑这天,老北京人都会去买处暑百合鸭,而江苏地区,做好鸭子菜要端一碗送给邻居,正所谓“处暑送鸭,无病各家”。

In ancient times, it was believed that ducks were at their most plump and nutritious in mid-July of the lunar calendar, a period often summed up by the saying, 'Ducks in mid-July, taro in mid-August.' On the day of the solar term 'Chushu,' people in old Beijing would traditionally buy a dish called 'Chushu Lily Duck.' In Jiangsu, it was customary to prepare a duck dish and share a bowl with neighbors, reflecting the saying, 'Send duck during Chushu, and all households will stay healthy.'





喝酸梅汤



本次节气活动中,学校将劳动教育与节气习俗相结合,让孩子们亲手制作了酸梅汤。乌梅中的有机酸含量非常丰富,能有效地抑制乳酸,降低疲劳感,除掉使血管老化的有害物质。所以处暑节气喝酸梅汤可以消暑提神、生津止渴,让肌肉和血管组织恢复活力。此外,吃多了肉时,喝酸梅汤还能帮助体内酸碱值达到平衡。

In this seasonal activity, the school combined labor education with traditional customs by having the children make sour plum soup themselves. Sour plums are rich in organic acids, which effectively inhibit lactic acid, reduce fatigue, and eliminate harmful substances that can cause vascular aging. Therefore, drinking sour plum soup during the "End of Heat" solar term can help cool down, refresh the mind, and quench thirst, restoring vitality to muscles and vascular tissues. Additionally, after consuming a lot of meat, drinking sour plum soup can help balance the body's acid-base levels.
