今天美国大选的初步结果即将出炉，截止发文前，特朗普大幅领先于哈里斯。我从《经济学人》中选了两篇有关大选的文章，从中我们学几个表达。

Hamas’s attack and Israel’s response suggest that the region will now be laden with a bloody, destructive conflict for months to come, if not longer.
译文：哈马斯的袭击和以色列的反应显示，在未来数月甚至更长的时间内，该地区将深陷一场血腥且具有摧毁性的冲突之中。
be laden with sth
laden 读作 /ˈleɪdn/，派生自动词 lade。这个动词有「把货物装船」的意思，但很少用。既然要装船，那通常情况下会将船装满，这样才能降低运输成本。于是形容词 laden 就是「满载……的」。它常与 with 搭配，形成 be laden with sth。汉语中的「硕果累累」你是不是有思路了？be laden with fruit。
此外，laden 还可以表示 having a lot of a particular quality, thing etc「充满的」，比如充满某种品质、充满某物等。be laden with 和 be full of, be filled with 类似。
The song is laden with meaning and feeling.
那首歌承载着深刻的意义和丰富的感情。

四六级的翻译是英译中，中国传统文化是一个永恒的考题。我们以「元宵节」为话题，把这句话译为英文。
吃元宵充满了文化象征意义。在中国文化中，元宵的圆形象征着团圆和完整，代表着家庭和睦和亲人之间的紧密联系。
put stress on sth
Political scientists point out the importance of institutions; political economists put stress on material conditions.
译文：政治学家指出制度的重要性；政治经济学家则强调物质条件的重要性。
我们时不时会在作文中写「强调了某事的重要性」，emphasize 于是映入「脑」帘。现在你可以用一个短语来替代。stress 作动词时表示「强调」。此外，它也有名词词性，表示 special importance or attention that is given to something「强调；重要性」。put stress on sth 这个词组便是「强调某事」的意思。
The teacher put stress on the need for good study habits.
老师强调了养成良好学习习惯的重要性。

Researchers put stress on the need for more sustainable energy sources to combat climate change.

perk up

perk up
perk 常作名词，表示工资之外的「补贴，津贴」。此外，它也拥有动词词性，通常以词组的面貌示人。perk up 经常表示 to become more cheerful, active「振作起来」。而在这里却是 to begin to increase or improve，表示价格、销量等「上涨」，可替换我们用了八百遍的 increase 和 rise。
Anything that could save the company money and perk up its cash flow was examined.
所有能够为公司节省开支、增加流动资金的办法都研究过了。

2010 年的英二图表主题是「手机入网数」。我们用上刚才的短语来描述图表中有关发展中国家的数据变化。
