  •  🌟创意说课目录As for me, I think learning is a journey, so I would like to present my instructional design in three parts.

  1. The first part is about the destination of the journey, which includes what to learn, who is learning, and where to go.

  2. The second part of the presentation is about the process of the journey, which means how the students learn.

  3. And the last part is about the view we can have along the journey—that is, how well the students learn.

Destination

what to learn 

  • So, shall we start from the destination?

  • As we know, there will be an English festival for the students next month.

  • 🌟So, we have extracted 10 stories from three textbooks to help students get ready for the festival about stories.

  • And this unit is under the theme "Literature, Art, and Sports," which is included in "Men and Society."

  • Building this unit, we take advantage of stories.

  1. Firstly to help students raise their awareness of using English as a tool to build their confidence in Chinese culture and to spread the stories, to spread the voice of China.

  2. And secondly, to deepen their understanding of both our motherland's culture and the virtues in Western societies.

  3. And lastly, to boost their confidence in making Chinese culture go global in their future studies.

  • What will students learn in this unit? 详见图中的三部分

  1. In the first part of the unit, students are going to read three Chinese stories and develop virtues of Chinese, such as perseverance from "Yugong," integrity from "Maliang," and bravery from "The Monkey King."

  2. In the second part of the unit, students are going to identify values of happiness by comparing the morals in Western stories and in Chinese people's minds and to build a correct value.

  3. And in the last part of the story, by exploring things and acting out the story, students will build strong family and country bonds.

  • How will students learn so many things in this unit?

  • Now, let's take a look at the bridge chart here. So, in the first three periods, students learn how to tell China's story well and introduce a character.

  • Then, in the following three periods, students read some stories from Western countries and learn how native speakers write a story, develop the theme, and make a play.

  • In the last four periods of the unit, students are going to make a play by reading the four stories about country and family bonds and finally, by acting out the story of Chang'e and Mulan, to spread China's voice in the English festival.

  • The article we read today is "The Emperor's New Clothes," and it is a conversation about the plot.

  • During listening, we try to help students turn it into a play and understand the meaning of the story.


who are learning 

  • Our students are comparatively above the average level of students of the same age.

  • They have already read the story, maybe in the Chinese version, and the key sentence patterns are not so difficult for them.

  • However, they may encounter some difficulties in turning the story into a play and in reading the lines with full emotion, understanding the deeper feelings of the emperor in the story.


where to go

  • 🌟So, based on what to learn, who is learning, and the key theories in the "English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education, 2022 Edition," we have made the learning objectives listed here.

  • As you can see, the different levels of objectives are listed in four parts, and we listed the objectives to cultivate students' core competence.

  • Here, you can see the most important part is about the plot of the story and then how to express the lines with full emotion.

  • Perhaps I think for the students, the most difficult part is about how to understand the image of the emperor.

Process

how we learn

  • So, based on the destination, we have a vivid process of the journey.

  • Let's have a look.

  1. 学习理解In the first part, we try to help students learn better through different kinds of activities. As you can see, firstly, we do some activities like surveys and listening practice to help students perceive and understand the story.

  2. 应用实践Then, we do some choral speaking and role play to help students practice what they have learned and apply them into use in the play.

  3. 迁移创新Lastly, in the hot seat activity and discussion about why the Emperor can find happiness, students transfer what they have learned in discussion and create their new ideas about the Emperor.

  • 🌟理论创新We also try to help students learn better and build a student-centered class by integrating different kinds of theories and try to help students have a classroom negotiation.

  • 🎩教育戏剧活动设计示范So, for one thing, we have many different kinds of activities in drama in education, such as the three hats we are wearing today and the activities like Choral Speak and Hot Seat to help students understand and experience the play.

  • Also, we do a classroom negotiation.

  • In the first part, students negotiate with themselves and try to construct the plot of the story step by step.

  • Then, students try to negotiate with each other to have a discussion about how to interpret the lines and how to understand the role of the emperor.

how well we learn

  • So, after seeing the integrated activities we have, we can see we have a fascinating view along the journey, right?

  • Let's have a look at the view we have first.

  • 🌟藏头诗形式的关键字总结I would like to summarize today's class in a keyword: "Agree."

  • So, students do the activities listed here step by step, so they will agree to use what they have learned today, for example, the activities or techniques in drama in education, in their further study to make a play or to read a story.

  • Also, students will agree to use story and play as a tool to spread their voice and try to help others know better about Chinese culture.

  • And also, 🌟 穿插授课与说课的桥梁形式设计two beautiful bridges are being built along the journey.

  • The first one is like this: by reading the story of the Emperor, students try to answer the questions, "Why can't we find happiness?" and let it show them in the last part of the discussion.

  • So that students can find a value of something simple that we can do to compare this and accept who we are to find happiness

  • By doing so, students build a bridge of culture between others, that means maybe the roles in the story and themselves and try to understand the values better.

  • 🌟We also build another bridge that involves different levels of thinking.

  • So, through the different activities here, students can turn knowledge into something in their experience and try to turn them into something they can do in their real life.

  • So that we can 🌟bridge the gap between knowing and evaluating and also creating.

  • So, here you can see the two different bridges can help students cultivate their core competence, like cultural awareness and thinking quality.

  • But as we know, maybe every class can't always be perfect, and there will always be a better one.

  • 🌟分层教学角度So, if for students who have a weaker foundation, I think maybe they can have more useful sentence starters to help them ask questions, maybe in the hot seat part.

  • And as I mentioned at the beginning of the presentation, learning is the journey, and I think more importantly, the journey is the destination.

  • I am so glad that I have a wonderful class with my students today, and thank you all for being with us today. Thank you.
