  • Okay, now let's move on to my 🌟teaching interpretation.

  • As you can see, there are six parts that I use to help me undertake and explain my lesson.

Analysis of the teaching

 material and students

  • So part 1, analysis of the teaching material.

  • This material is edited according to Harvard University models because they are in line with the book, the text from the book Go for it. Unit 10. If you go to the party, you will have a great time.

  • And this is a grammar lesson, so students are expected to use the first conditional if clause and model verb should to talk about consequences in life and give reasons and to give advice and explain reasons, which is also the focus of my lesson.

  • Also, this lesson unfurls itself through a 🌟situational context.

  • Since they are 8th graders, they have some basic vocabulary, grammar knowledge of present simple tense and future tense.

  • Independent learning and cooperative study underline much of their learning style.

  • And you know, they are 8th graders, they are growing up, they want to use the target language to talk about something, to do something in their life.

  • So that's why today's lesson is to help them talk about future life, give advice and explain reasons.

Learning objectives and basic concept

  • 教学目标设置依据Of course, my learning objectives are set based on the English curriculum standards and the core competence of English.

  • They are

  • A: observing the structure and the function of first conditional if clause and model verb should then summarize which stays on learning and understanding level.

  • B: practice using the target language in different person forms in given contexts, it stays on practicing and applying level.

  • C: find out the problem and solve the problem using the target language and this stays on transferring and innovation level.

  • 🌟德育创新The moral education is to stand in others’ shoes and face problems positively.

  • As you can see, the core competences of English are shown and developed, as are shown here.

  • Of course, these core competences do not isolate from each other.

  • Actually, they come or work as a whole to help students in this lesson to understand cause and effect and be better at making decisions.

Teaching key points and difficult points

  • The teaching key points include using the first conditional if clause in the second person and third person correctly.

  • And the learning difficult point is using the first conditional if clause to express ideas and give plausible advice.

  • 🌟提出解决措施Well, it also requires teachers’ special design and smart guidance and effective methods to help the students overcome this difficult point.

Teaching/Learning methods

  • So the teaching methods and learning methods are listed here.

  • 一句话带过,轻重分明They are incrementally integrated into all their activities.

Teaching procedures

 
  • So now my teaching procedures, as you can see, there are four steps.

  • So first of all, I will ask my students to have a free talk using the target language they have learned before.

  • So they will talk about if you have free time, what will you do?

  • 设计意图So this part is to expose first conditional if clause to my students. 

  • And part 2, observation of the target language, and this part includes two small steps.

  1. Step 1, I will ask students to observe the mottos closely, carefully, and then they will choose the meaning.

  2. Step 2, they will look at these mottos a second time, and this time they will choose the structure.

  • On this part, students develop their ability in analyzing and summarizing while coming up with the meaning and structure of the target language.

  • In this part, I put three small 🌟drills to help students consolidate this target language.

  • Drill number 1⃣️

  • So drill number one, matching and making sentences.

  • So students will use, look at these six short sentences, put them, match them in meaning first, and generate three pairs, then change them into if clauses.

  • And then they get more mottos.

  • 🌟非常专业的说课术语This small drill guarantees students assimilation of if clauses in terms of function and structure and enhance their efficiency in using it. 

  • And then I will ask students to think about this. What do these mottos want to tell us?

  • Of course, I will guide them to use the target language model verb should to express their ideas. 

  • And this is to expose model verb should to students and thus bringing up the topic of the party.

  • Drill number 2⃣️

  • So step 2, students will talk about the party by first filling in the plan of my student Mary, and then they will talk about their own plans using the information and hints here.

  • And this enables students to practice if clauses in wh- questions and finish the transition to second person in a specific context.

  • This is my drill number 2.

  • Drill number 3⃣️

  • And then drill number 3, 2 steps also.

  1. Step 1, I will ask one student to the front, help me demonstrate, ask Mr Magic, because it will tell the student about his future, only if the student can put their two sentences at a clause.

  2. And then students will work in groups of four, each student will repeat what this boy has done before, thus they will come up with their own futures.

  3. Finally, one reporter will come to the front and present their future lives.

  • And this part is to help students probably use if clause in third person and here we accomplish a breakthrough of the teaching difficult point.

  • Well next part is the use of the target language.

  • As you can see I've got a message from my friend, my student, she has a problem about coming to my party.

  • So students will talk about their advice and then use the target language to explain the reasons, of course. 

  • Then to make this go deeper into their mind to help them work this out, students will work in groups, acting out this conversation between different people concerning about this problem.

  • So this helps students to express opinions and get advice freely and through this process they take in the idea of thinking from others’ point of view or standing in other shoes.

  • And finally my homework.

  • For the compulsory part students will continue solve problems using the target language of this lesson.

  • And if they're interested, the optional homework is for them to make more mottos to arouse their interest. 

  • 🌟作业设置意图And this part, students consolidate the target language and use it in their life so that they start to appreciate the beauty of a language.

  • 🌟简直可以整段照抄!Evaluation takes place after class in terms of self, peer and teacher, which facilitates multi evaluation and helps them develop their language skills and their metacognitive strategies.

Features of design

  • While next is my feature of design, let's go through them one by one.

  • So 1, the hierarchy of learning objectives are in accordance with Bloom's Taxonomy, which are catered to students’ cognitive process.

  • As you can see my learning objectives are in line with the cognitive sequence here.

  • 2, all the learning activities are interrelated to help students reach zone of proximal development, providing enough scaffolding for them.

  • And this lesson involves from observing to practicing and finally to using

  • 3. Various approaches are adopted to enable students to explore the text from multiple levels.

  • And the situational context teaching is the highlight of my teaching.

  • It is based on interest various activities work together to provide us systematic guidance for students. 

  • And of course, as you can see from their homework, their learning passion is stoked, they are ready to solve the problems using a language they have learned today, 🌟自我肯定and that's what I'm proud of.

  • And here also the mottos, I'm always happy, ready to share them with my next group of kids.

  • So I guess education is not an end, but a means to an end.

  • So I'll keep learning to make my students be a better person.

  • And that's my explanation. Thank you.
