On the morning of September 26th, 2024, the press conference for the second "Art at Qiaoshan - Art Field Nanhai 2024" was held in the Crane Hall of Beijing International Club, which carries important diplomatic symbolic significance. Representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Nanhai District Government of Foshan City, the Italian Embassy in China, the China Cultural Entertainment Industry Association, as well as professionals from both the culture and media sectors gathered together to witness this grand event.
Although this noteworthy art festival is held in Nanhai, Foshan, its profound significance extends far beyond its representation of regional culture. It serves as an important window to promote international cultural and artistic exchange and showcase the charm and spirit of Chinese culture. The press conference held here aims to send the voice of Nanhai to the world, inviting friends from all over the world to attend this artistic feast and explore the charming destination of Nanhai.

At the press conference, Francesco Saverio Teruzzi, the representative of Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, shared two major highlights of the upcoming art festival, especially the permanent art installation "The Third Heaven in Qiaoshan". The second edition of "Art at Qiaoshan - Art Field Nanhai 2024 has unveiled an impressive lineup of art projects, comprising a total of 94 fascinating exhibition projects. These projects not only encompass the popular classics from the inaugural festival but also introduce numerous highly anticipated new exhibitions. Gathering creative forces from around the globe, the art festival boasts a participation of up to 150 artist groups, comprising over 170 talented artists, with over 110 new artist groups joining in, showcasing an unprecedented international perspective and creativity.
These artists hail from 26 countries and regions worldwide, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries, including China, Argentina, Ireland, Austria, Australia, Germany, France, Cuba, Canada, Qatar, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the United States, Mexico, Portugal, Japan, Spain, Singapore, Iran, Israel, Italy, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom, jointly weaving a colorful artistic tapestry.

This year's art festival has made it clear that "The Original Bay Area" will serve as a permanent theme, supported by 12 cultural concepts that are integrated into the presentation of the event, including geography, hydrology, historical context, inheritance, struggle, and development.
These 12 concepts are the evolution of geography and hydrology, the dawn of ancient civilizations, the origins of southern migrant peoples, the inheritance of regional forms, the polder and water conservancy homeland, the highlight of Neo-Confucianism culture, the traditional representatives of dragons and lions, the diaspora of overseas Chinese, the origins of national industry, the enlightenment of modern thought, and the pioneering spirit of reform.

In addition, each edition of the art festival focuses on a specific theme. This year's theme is “Be Like Water”, which is closely aligned with the "Waterborne Nanhai" strategy.
It integrates art into water culture, showcasing a multi-dimensional picture of "water culture, ecology, transportation, economy, and life", while also reflecting the character and wisdom of the Nanhai people who have adapted to changes brought by water.

This art festival will, in its creation and delivery, practice the principles of inclusion and continued development. This year, it has expanded from Xiqiao Town to Jiujiang Town, following the principles of diverse cultures, representative samples, regional development, and viewing experiences. It strengthens waterway connections, constructs 10 major art areas, forms 5 scenic art walking routes, and 4 waterborne art tours, deepening the exploration of regional art.

本届艺术节为了加强社会化参与，创新开辟了特别板块“在地艺术创作营”，面向大湾区范围公开招募具有多元身份的青年创作者，设定“拥抱水生活、家在南海、公厕友好”三个主题进行命题创作。创作营启动招募后，共接到来自大湾区各地的报名资料超过800份。其中各地院校330多位/组、创意机构340多位/组、自由创作者100多位/组，以及香港和澳门地区创作者30多位/组。经过筛选共有38位/组（共50人）入选创作营。截止当前，创作方案已完成提交，待经艺术节组委会与策展团队评选后，最终选出10个方案进行制作呈现。艺术节公众号将在10月上旬公布结果。
To enhance social participation, this year's art festival innovatively launched a special section, the "Local Art Creation Camp," which openly recruited young creators with diverse backgrounds from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Participants were tasked with creating works under three themes: "Embrace Water Life," "Home in Nanhai," and "Toilet Friendliness." Following the launch of the recruitment for the creation camp, over 800 applications were received from various regions within the Greater Bay Area.
These included over 330 entries from academic institutions, over 340 from creative agencies, over 100 from freelance creators, and over 30 from creators in Hong Kong and Macao. After careful screening, 38 entries (totaling 50 individuals/groups) were selected to participate in the creation camp. Currently, all the creation proposals have been submitted and will be evaluated by the art festival organizing committee and the curatorial team. Ultimately, 10 proposals will be selected for production and presentation. The results will be announced on the art festival's official WeChat account in early October.

To better facilitate tourists from cities within the Greater Bay Area, especially from Hong Kong, Macao, Shenzhen, and Zhuhai, to visit Nanhai District, the art festival has partnered with Hong Kong's Wing Tung Bus Company to develop Hong Kong ticketing services and jointly launch a "ticket + bus ticket" freedom package. This allows the environmentally friendly Wing Tung buses to shuttle through the Bay Area, providing Hong Kong and Shenzhen tourists with direct access to the art festival venues in Nanhai's Jiujiang and Xiqiao.

Airplane
No matter which city in China you are coming from, flying to Foshan Airport or Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is the first choice. Baiyun Airport is about an hour's drive from Xiqiao Town and Jiujiang Town in Nanhai District, and there are direct airport shuttle buses to Xiqiao.
High-speed Train
If you choose to travel by high-speed train, you can choose between Guangzhou South Railway Station and Foshan West Railway Station, which are 40 minutes and 20 minutes away from the art festival area respectively. During your visit, the average travel time between Xiqiao and Jiujiang towns is 20-30 minutes.

Nanhai District boasts convenient transportation, whether you are self-driving, renting a car, or using a ride-hailing service. Coming to the art festival from Shenzhen and Hong Kong is now even more convenient, as you can take the "Wing Tung Bus," a partner of the art festival, for a comfortable and affordable one-stop journey.
