广东南海大地艺术节来也，一齐耍啊！‘Be Like Water’ Inspires Art Field Nanhai!

After nearly six months of intense preparations and multiple stages of development, the Art Field Nanhai 2024 event is on schedule and ready for visitors! 

The first Art Field Nanhai took place in 2022, with the theme of ‘The Original Bay Area’ offering inspiration for everyone. 

TIt offered the public a wildly new and exciting three-dimensional presentation and soon drew significant attention. 

This time around, the Nanhai District Government and the organizational team of Art Field Nanhai will continue the exploration of the original theme. The specific focus of this year’s project is ‘Be Like Water’

本届主题“水係南海”，等同于“水就是南海”的意思。这是一句既有粤语方言味道，又带着少许古文风格的表述。水之于南海的意义，不仅仅是“与水谋地”，还是如何以水为脉，为时代发展需要铺设新的路径。本届艺术节上，策展团队基于“艺术创生”工作方法，从针对性的地域观察之中，不断寻找契合，从策展的构思，到场域的规划，从艺术的表达，到体验的设计，也自然而然地围绕着“水上南海”而展开，力求着眼于讲述一个：这里的人们穿越古今，始终能够把握时代发展命题，建设湾区永续活力之源的本地故事。

The theme of this year's event, 'Be Like Water', is a phrase that, in its Chinese translation, carries both the flavor of Cantonese dialect and a hint of ancient Chinese style. The significance of water in Nanhai is not only about ‘living with water’, but furthermore it concerns how to use water more efficiently, as a lifeline to pave a new pathway for the development of our modern society. At this year's festival, the curatorial team, based on the working method of 'art creation', constantly searched for a fit from targeted regional observations. 

From the conception of the exhibition to the planning of the venue, from the expression of art  to the design of the visitor experience, it naturally revolved around the the image of ‘watery Nanhai’ and strived to tell a local story about people who have always been able to grasp the opportunities for development presented to them, and through diligence and hard work built a sustainable and dynamic source for the whole Bay Area.

首届艺术节项目《醒狮操》在南海区中小学阳光体育大课间被全面推广，本届艺术节还将会推出《醒狮操》2.0！

The Art Field Nanhai 2022 project, 'Lion Dance Exercise,' has been comprehensively promoted during the sunshine sports break in primary and secondary schools in Nanhai District. This art festival will also launch the 'Lion Dance Exercise' 2.0 version.

On August 1st, Fu Jiong, Director of the Design Trend Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a keynote speech titled 'A Symposium on the Research and Industrial Application of the Distinctive Regional Colors of the Bay Area and Nanhai' at the Propaganda Office of the Nanhai District Committee.

在地艺术创作营

Local Artistic Creation Camp

全新开设“在地艺术创作营”，面向本地、面向湾区，鼓励青年创作者参与；全面吸纳本地企业参与，在创作中结合融入产品、材料、制造工艺，展现南海区制造业优势。

The newly opened 'Local Art Creation Camp' is aimed at local and Bay Area   youth creators; it intends to fully involve various local enterprises, incorporating products, materials, and manufacturing techniques to showcase the advantages of Nanhai District's manufacturing industry.

艺术节永久总部落地西樵镇有为馆，展示艺术节长期举办决心，助力打造南海文化与旅游聚集区，推动听音湖国际化面貌提升；全面参与“九江镇文化艺术新中心建设、国风园乡贤文化建设与青创提升、渔乐邨-太平墟复兴计划、平沙国际艺术岛打造、岭南水乡儒溪村优化、南海丝厂激活带动与老官山Citywalk打造”等行动，让地域创生多点开花。

The permanent headquarters of the Art Field Nanhai has been established in Youwei Pavilion, Xiqiao Town, demonstrating the long-term commitment of the festival to help build a cultural and tourism cluster in the Nanhai and promote the internationalization of Tingyin Lake.

They will fully participate in the construction of the new cultural and artistic center in Jiujiang Town, the construction of the cultural heritage of the country's traditional garden and the promotion of youth entrepreneurship, the revitalization plan of Yulecun-Taiping Market.

They also intend to assist the construction of Pingshathe construction of Pingsha International Art Island, the optimization of Ruxi Village in Lingnan Water Village, the activation and promotion of the Nanhai Silk Factory, and the construction of the Citywalk in Laoguan Mountain, so as to make the regional revitalization flourish in many ways.

截至本次首轮发布（8月7日）时止，预计本届艺术节的艺术项目将接近90个（含本届新作品和首届保留作品）；参展艺术家来自20个国家和地区，总数将超过100位（组），国际艺术家和大湾区艺术家的占比都有进一步提高。

因循大地艺术节的理念，为促进跨领域交流和多维对话，本届艺术节的创作者身份将更加多元，不但在泛艺术领域继续拓宽，还连接扩展至科学与社会研究范畴。参加者涵盖当代艺术家、建筑师、设计师、音乐家、舞蹈家、表演艺术家、漫画家、插画师、摄影师、作家、媒体人、文化学者等。

As of the initial announcement (August 7th), it is estimated that the upcoming Art Field Nanhai 2024 will feature close to 90 art projects (including new works and retained pieces from the inaugural edition). Participating artists hail from over 100 individuals or groups spanning 20 countries and regions, with further increases in the proportions of international artists and those from the Greater Bay Area. 

Adhering to the principles of  Art Field Nanhai 2024, this edition aims to facilitate cross-disciplinary exchanges and culturally enriching and stimulating dialogues. As such, the creators' identities are more diverse than ever, not only expanding within the broader art realm but also bridging into scientific and social research fields. Attendees encompass contemporary artists, architects, designers, musicians, dancers, performers, cartoonists, illustrators, photographers, writers, media professionals, cultural scholars, and more.

大地艺术节中国团队，经过长年实践，不断总结优化，形成了一套系统的工作方法，从文化调研，到场域调研，再到艺术调研，发现问题、研究问题、解决问题，逐步递进聚焦，为策展和艺术创作提供依据。

After years of practice and continuous optimization, the China team of the Art Field Nanhai 2024 has formed a systematic working method, which involves cultural research, field research, and art research. The team identifies, studies, and solves problems, gradually focusing on them and providing a basis for curatorial and artistic creation.

“在地性”是广东南海大地艺术节的策展与创作核心理念，只有亲临现场，才能更好地讲述在地故事，以各自不同的角度去挖掘更深邃的文化之力。艺术家们不仅仅是在限度的空间中向内地探索，而是来到更广阔的水土之上，激发多维度的奇思妙想。

'Localism' is the core concept of the curatorial and creative work of the Art Field Nanhai. Only by visiting the site can one better tell the local stories and explore the deeper cultural power from different perspectives. Artists are not only exploring the mainland in limited space, but also coming to a broader land to stimulate multi-dimensional ideas.

自第二届筹备启动至今，艺术节团队已组织艺术家赴南海考察 46次，包括 37组/位艺术家共计 100人次。始于龙舟水、经历高温湿热、又智斗台风，考察路上的背景板时而青空白云，时而雨雾环绕，团队带领艺术家们或驱车往返于西樵和九江、或沿着水脉纵深南下，以更多重的方式探索着这片土地的肌理。

Since the second preparatory stage, the festival team has organized artists to visit the Nanhai for 46 times, including 37 groups/artists with a total of 100 people. Starting from the Loong Boat, experiencing high temperature and humidity, and fighting against typhoons, the background of the investigation road is sometimes blue and white clouds, sometimes surrounded by rain and fog. The team led the artists to drive back and forth between Xiqiao and Jiujiang, or to go down south along the waterway, exploring the texture of this land in more ways.

截至目前，艺术节策展工作已结束，艺术创作阶段正在进行，欢迎南海本地企业积极参与共创；完整艺术家名单和主要艺术方案，将在后续阶段性公布；本届艺术节规模范围大、数量多，完整舒适观赏至少需要3天及以上。

Up to now, the curatorial work of the Art Field Nanhai 2024 has been completed, and the art creation stage is in progress. We welcome local enterprises in the Nanhai to actively participate in the co-creation; The complete list of artists and the main art programs will be announced in subsequent stages; The scale and scope of this art festival are large and numerous, and it takes at least 3 days or more to fully and comfortably enjoy it.
