Curated by internationally renowned curator David Stuart Elliott, the exhibition presents three representative large-scale installation works by Shen Shaomin in the form of a "trilogy" - "Chinese Carp," "Nature Under Control," and the newly created "Birds Troubled by Trees."
Each work embodies the artist's unique observations and reflections on the living environment and humanity's impact on nature, attracting viewers to re-examine the relationship between nature and humanity with profound philosophical and symbolic significance.
Renowned for his unique artistic style and material application, Shen Shaomin's artistic practice spans multiple fields including installation art, video art, documentaries, conceptual painting, poetry, and public art. His creative inspiration often stems from profound insights into technology, nature, and the current state of human existence.
For Shen Shaomin, poetry and art are crucial tools for exploring the world and expressing his thoughts. His poetry is not merely a combination of words; it is another form of presenting installation art, filled with questioning of reality and envisioning of the future.

Shen Shaomin's works often challenge viewers' visual experience and cognitive boundaries through exaggerated, contradictory, or unconventional means. In the artwork "Chinese Carp," Shen Shaomin explores the relationship between traditional Chinese culture and contemporary society through the carp, which symbolizes auspiciousness, prosperity, and good luck.
The carp, a symbol of a better life in Chinese culture, is used by Shen to express the predicament and commercialized status of traditional culture in the modern context, implicitly questioning the material pursuits in modern society. Despite symbolizing the aspiration for a happy life, in today's materialistic society, this pursuit often becomes hollow, turning into a consumed symbol.
Another work, "Nature Under Control," explores the controlled state of nature under modern technology and human intervention. It reflects the phenomenon of nature being gradually commodified and instrumentalized amidst civilization and technological progress, pointing out the problems caused by humans' overexploitation of natural resources.
Through his work, Shen Shaomin urges people to pay attention to the ecological environment and reflect on the potential risks of humans' excessive control over nature. The work intends to reveal that when nature's self-regulation is disrupted, it may bring irreversible impacts on human survival.

The new work, "Birds Troubled by Trees," focuses on the relationship between birds and trees, symbolizing the interdependence and conflict among life forms in nature. In the natural world, birds perch on trees, which provide shelter for them. However, Shen Shaomin transforms this interdependence into a "trouble," creating an atmosphere of opposition to explore the relationship between constraint and freedom in nature and humanity.
This work metaphorically represents the interdependence and contradictions between nature and life, prompting viewers to reflect on the state of individual existence in social and natural environments—where what appears to be a protective presence sometimes becomes a constraint.
Shen Shaomin's creations often originate from daily life, evoking resonance in the audience through everyday objects and symbols. His works not only possess visual impact but also establish a bridge between the everyday and nature.
At the opening forum, curator David Stuart Elliott introduced Shen Shaomin's creative practice. He pointed out that the material "salt" has been a recurring theme throughout Shen's works, serving as a traceable clue in his artistic journey.
Elliott believed that "salt" is not only a carrier for material construction but also a medium for symbolic expression, reflecting Shen's multifaceted understanding of the relationships between humans and nature, society, and the environment. He emphasized that Shen's works are not static displays but encourage audience participation and interaction, giving new life and meaning to the works through the audience's engagement.
