ShanghART Gallery has announced that ShanghART West Bund Central, a new space located at Xuhui Riverside in Shanghai, officially opens to the public on the 18th of August, 2024.

香格纳画廊的故事始于1996年的上海，那是一个中国当代艺术刚刚萌芽的年代。创始人劳伦斯·何浦林，一位对中国艺术充满热情的瑞士人，在上海波特曼大酒店的走廊里，悄然开启了香格纳画廊的大门。
The story of the ShanghART Gallery begins in Shanghai in 1996, a time when Chinese contemporary art was just beginning to sprout. The founder, Lorenz Helbling, a Swiss connoisseur with a deep knowledge and passion for Chinese art, quietly opened the doors of ShanghART Gallery in the corridor of the Portman Hotel in Shanghai.

从那一刻起，香格纳便成为了中国当代艺术的一个重要窗口，不仅为艺术家们提供了展示才华的舞台，也为观众带来了前所未有的艺术体验。
From that moment on, ShanghART Gallery became an important window to the world for contemporary Chinese art, not only providing a stage for artists to showcase their talents, but also bringing unprecedented artistic experiences to the audience.
香格纳画廊（M50）

香格纳画廊来到西岸前的主空间位于普陀区莫干山路50号M50创意园区。M50是上海最早形成聚集的艺术园区之一，原址曾经是上海春明粗纺厂，因工厂效益低下停运而转租，在香格纳画廊、比翼艺术中心等入驻下共同构成了最早的艺术生态圈。
ShanghART Gallery's main space before coming to the West Bund is located at M50 Creative Park, 50 Moganshan Road, Putuo District. M50 is one of the earliest art parks in Shanghai.
The original site used to be the Shanghai Chunming Wool Factory, which was subleased due to the low efficiency of the factory, and jointly formed the earliest art ecosystem under the settlement of ShanghART Gallery and BizArt Art Center.

2014年，龙美术馆与余德耀美术馆相继在西岸这片昔日的“工业地带”扎根，为区域注入了浓厚的艺术氛围，预示着西岸与艺术世界的紧密融合正式开启。随后，包括香格纳画廊在内的众多艺术画廊机构纷纷涌入，它们不仅丰富了西岸的艺术生态，还推动了西岸滨江地区向亚洲最大规模艺术区的快速发展。
In 2014, Long Art Museum and Yuz Art Museum successively took root in the former "industrial zone" on the West Bund, injecting a strong artistic atmosphere into the region and heralding the formal opening of the close integration between the West Bund and the art world.
Subsequently, many art gallery institutions, including ShanghART Gallery, poured in, which not only enriched the art ecology of the West Bund, but also promoted the rapid development of the West Bund Riverside area into the largest art district in Asia.

2024年，随着城市规划的调整，西岸艺术片区引来了拆迁，大量的画廊美术馆集体搬家。6月，香格纳画廊也宣告了告别，将主空间迁回M50。
In 2024, with the adjustment of urban planning, Art District was scheduled for demolition, and a large number of galleries in the local area made the decision to move to new locations. In June, the ShanghART Gallery also announced its farewell and moved its main space back to M50.

For more than two decades, the ShanghART Gallery has been working closely with many artists to present contemporary art exhibitions and projects of high quality. It is not only one of the first galleries in China to participate in internationally renowned art fairs, but also invited to participate in Art Basel for 20 consecutive years, becoming a beautiful business card of Chinese contemporary art on the international stage. Every time ShanghART appeared, the world saw the unique charm and infinite possibilities of Chinese art.

坐落于上海市徐汇区西岸瑞宁路288号4幢，香格纳西岸中环不仅是地理位置的迁徙，更是艺术梦想的新起点。这里，新近落成的西岸中環如同一颗璀璨明珠，镶嵌于艺术与文化的沃土之上，与星美术馆、龙美术馆等文化地标交相辉映，共同编织出一幅生动的艺术生态画卷。
Located in Building 4, 288 Ruining Road, West Bund, Xuhui District, Shanghai, ShanghART West Bund Central is not only a geographical migration, but also a new starting point for artistic dreams. Here, the newly completed West Bund Central is like a shining pearl, embedded in the fertile soil of art and culture, and the Start Art Museum, Long Art Museum and other cultural landmarks complement each other, weaving a vivid artistic ecological picture.

建筑之美，历史的温柔拥抱
Artistic architecture that integrates history
香格纳本次选址的西岸中环由goa大象设计事务所匠心打造，空间基于老南浦站旧日址的保护与再生理念，巧妙融合现代与古典，呈现出一幢独栋三跨人字坡屋顶玻璃建筑。这不仅仅是一座建筑，更是对过往记忆的致敬与未来想象的承载。内部空间更是别有洞天，约700平米的地下展厅与500平米的日常活动空间，为艺术家与观众提供了无限可能。
The West Bund Central selected by ShanghART this time was built by goa Studio with great care. Based on the conservation and regeneration concept of the former site of the old Nanpu Station, the space ingeniously integrates modernity and classicism, presenting a single-story three-span glass building with a gable roof.
This is not only a building, but also a tribute to the memory of the past and the imagination of the future. The interior space is unique, about 700 square meters of underground exhibition hall and 500 square meters of daily activity space, providing unlimited possibilities for artists and audiences.

首展开幕，探索“反常合道”
The first exhibition "In Harmony With The Way" set to open!
2024年8月18日，香格纳西岸中环将迎来它的首展——“反常合道”。这是一场由刘毅、鲁钰、徐超凡&任庆齐、姚清妹、张萌、张文心、郑亦然七位/组艺术家共同编织的艺术盛宴。他们以反叛常规的笔触，在作品中构建了一个个看似“反常”却又“合道”的奇妙世界。正如苏轼点评柳宗元诗句所言，“反常合道为趣”，艺术家们以独特的视角和创新的手法，引领观众穿梭于现实与幻想的边界，体验一场心灵的震撼之旅。
“反常合道”展览中，艺术家们通过作品，展现了他们对个体独特性的追求，对当代社会现象的深刻反思，以及对艺术本质的不懈探索。在这里，每一件作品都是艺术家心灵的镜像，每一场对话都是对“反常”与“合道”之间微妙平衡的探讨。

On the 18th of August, 2024, ShanghART West Bund Central will welcome its debut exhibition - "In Harmony With The Way". This is an artistic feast jointly woven by seven artists/groups: Liu Yi, Lu Yu, Xu Chaoan & Ren Qingqi, Yao Qingmei, Zhang Meng, Zhang Wenxin and Zheng Yiran.
With rebellious brushstrokes, they constructed a seemingly "abnormal" but "harmonious" wonderful world in their works. As Su Shi commented on Liu Zongyuan's poem, "Unconventional things with profound meanings often spark people's interest and contemplation.", the artists guide the audience through the boundary between reality and fantasy with unique perspectives and innovative techniques, and experience a spiritual shock journey.
Through their works, the artists show their pursuit of individual uniqueness, their profound reflection on contemporary social phenomena, and their unremitting exploration of the nature of art. Here, each work is a mirror image of the artist's mind, and each dialogue is an exploration of the delicate balance between "anomaly" and "harmony".
