In the exhibition, the algorithm of life represents not only the intricate and exquisite operating mechanisms inherent in organisms but also the unyielding human spirit of exploring the unknown and pushing boundaries. Human technology endeavors both to harness the forces of the macrocosm and to delve into the secrets of the microcosm. Through these endeavors, humanity strives to transform matter into tools that liberate the mind and body, relentlessly pushing against the limits of life, extending its span, and broadening its horizons.

It is from this wellspring of human wisdom and creativity that, despite the finitude of life, we cling to the belief in infinite possibilities. This conviction serves as a beacon, guiding us forward in our quest to uncover what lies beyond.

As the exhibition preview alludes, the interpretation of problems is both a posing of questions and an offering of answers; it is a deduction and a provocation for further inquiry. In the midst of the technological deluge, redefining our relationship with ourselves and the world has emerged as a defining challenge of our time.

In a mirrored realm, where the boundaries between the virtual and the real converge, a profound reflection unfolds upon the intricate interplay between robots and artificial intelligence in our tangible reality and the ethereal realm of data. Do they share the same space-time within the vast universal hierarchy? Can we uncover an interface, a harmonious gateway that bridges the virtual and the real?

Beyond the confines of human cognition and machine algorithms, might there be a generative intelligence, transcending these dichotomies? Are robots and artificial intelligence two facets of the same intricate gem, unified in their intrinsic nature?

Scientist: Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society

Artist: SciArt Co-lab 2023, Television, 44cm×25cm×33cm×16,10'' - 1'54''

In the 'Fluid sections' , 16 vintage televisions silently play recordings of scientific experiments, creating a juxtaposition of history and the present: such as the space robots of 92 and the current utilization of large-scale infrastructure maintenance robots.

The 16 televisions serve as vessels, akin to 16 Petri dishes containing the Fluid Sections of scientific exploration. Each screen magnifies a distinct specimen, employed for observation, research, experimentation, and testing. Through this process, they ferment, evolve, and transform, giving birth to diverse forms and remarkable achievements.

The Mood of the Sunlight is a collaborative interdisciplinary project conceived and created bySciArt Co-lab. The associated research paper has been published in proceedings of IEEE DATA 2022 International Conference on Digital Science.

The Mood of the Sunlight gathers multidimensional data on sunlight in Shenzhen. This data encompasses aspects such as hue, saturation, and brightness. Through the fusion of data visualization and AI generation, it reproduces and transforms the trajectory and traces of sunlight's movement. Over the course of passing time, sunlight is endlessly elongated and compressed, revealing the undulating fluctuations of emotion and atmosphere.

The Significance of Significance

Artist: XU Jinlong 2023, Mixed Media, 740cm×112.3cm

Originally a term used in the field of computer science to describe data processing, 'stack' is repurposed in this context to depict the vertical structure encompassing the realms of land, water, the cloud, and the atmosphere—it also signifies the triad of matter, information, and energy. Through the lens of the Ground-Air Stack, we embark on an exploration of how robots and artificial intelligence can traverse these hierarchical systems, establishing ecological integrity and symbiotic mechanisms within the realms of 'life, cities, and nature.'

2023, Mixed Media, Diameter 12cm×75

Multiple autonomous modules of robots, akin to silicone-based cells, interconnect in an open manner, birthing a complex intelligent system. This might be the closest analogy of a technological creation to a natural creation.

They open interfaces on the theater stage, autonomously merge and dynamically connect, weaving an intricate collective collaboration, leading to creation of a collective intelligence surpassing that of individuals.

Silicone-based cells are actually inspired by the collective behaviors of organisms such as slime molds and ants. The modular and self-reconfigurable robot, FreeSN, is developed to freely configure and infinitely expand within a network of intertwined individual intelligences, giving rise to collective intelligence.

Hypnosis Reveries (part)

Artist: HUANG Jiasheng (Jessien)

2021, Mixed Media, Cubic stand 80cm×80cm×80cm, Spherical model diameter 130cm

Through an archaeological approach of 'exploration, documentation, and analysis,' we unearth visionary concepts that transcend the boundaries of our present reality, reaching far beyond the confines of our era. Like excavating artifacts from the depths of the human mind, we reveal future relics and preserve them within a virtual museum.

Additionally, another ever-evolving open space emerges—a vast, futuristic archaeological site, tirelessly seeking to capture and trace the elusive landscapes of tomorrow, amidst the footprints of the present.

Hypnosis Reveries

Artist: HUANG Jiasheng (Jessien)

2021, Mixed Media, Cubic stand 80cm×80cm×80cm, Spherical model diameter 130cm

Hypnosis Reveries is a captivating exploration of virtual reality (VR), unfurling a mesmerizing 20-minute journey. Within the immersive realm of VR, it constructs a spiritual labyrinth of personal memories, tracing the contours of growth through abstraction and minimalism. The interplay of squares, angles, and circles, three potent symbols pregnant with profound allegorical significance, pointing towards both the past and the future.

This work has been awarded the Winner of the Best Chinese Work at the Sandbox Immersive Festival 2021, and Official Selection of Panorama Unit at the 11th Beijing International Film Festival.

Based on years of architectural research and the study of 'Human Perception of Space', Jessien invented a set of highly experimental and pioneering spatial narrative methods, including a national patented algorithm named 'Interactive Redirected Walking'.
