Speaker: Shen Shiqin

Topic:  Application of Attachment and Adaptive Dynamic Maturity Model (DMM) in Family Therapy

Short description:

Attachment Theory, proposed by John Bowlby, is one of the most important theories from the 70s of the last century to the present. It occupies a central position in the research and clinical treatment of many fields of psychology, and is an important theoretical basis for developmental psychology, psychopathology, psychoanalysis, and family therapy.

At present, one of the latest developments in attachment theory is the study of attachment strategies. Attachment strategies refer to the strategies developed by individuals in the early years of attachment relationships to identify and cope with dangers, and Ainsworth first proposed the concept in 1978 and discovered several attachment strategies in infancy. Based on this, Dr. Patricia M, Crittenden, under the guidance of his mentors Ainsworth and John Bowlby, has proposed and continuously refined the Dynamic Maturity Theory Model (DMM) of attachment and adaptation, which describes the self-protection strategies developed by individuals through the interaction of genetic inheritance, maturation process, and personal experience.

DMM believes that attachment strategies are dynamic and malleable, and with the development of the brain and the maturity of the mind, as well as changes in the external environment, attachment strategies will also change. DMM has a complete set of attachment strategy assessment tools and intervention methods from infancy to adulthood, and has been widely used in various fields such as parent education, parent-infant relationship therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, individual therapy, and group therapy.

Since 2016, the speaker has applied DMM to more than 1,500 cases of family therapy for children and adolescents and the treatment of mother-infant relationship.
