‘Dreaming back to the Tang Dynasty,
Poetry and Fragrance’
Tang Poetry Parade was held for three days
at SCBS.
Please click on the video above to watch
SCBS teachers advocate the teaching philosophy of ‘teaching from the textbook, not teaching the textbook’, which aims to break the shackles of traditional teaching and make learning lively and interesting for students. Through the project-based learning, students were able to practise teamwork, creativity and other comprehensive skills in the process of planning activities and designing admission tickets. This activity, like a cultural feast, is not only a wonderful activity, but also a successful teaching practice. It allowed the students of SCBS to appreciate the profoundness of Tang culture in the fragrance of poetry, and added a touch of colour to their path of growth.
Let's take a look at this activity!
Preparatory stage of the activity
Taking Tang poetry as an example, teachers and students planned a series of activities together, such as the Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming activity, so that students could go into games and activities to feel the charm of poetry on the basis of their in-class study of poetry. Teachers combined teaching materials with activities. This way of teaching not only allowed students to experience the acquisition of knowledge transfer from books to practice, but also stimulated their passion of learning.
From the design of the entrance ticket to the arrangement and layout of the content of the programme, every detail is full of students' creativity and wisdom. Under the careful guidance of their teachers, the students designed their own tickets, skilfully incorporating elements of Tang Dynasty clothing, architecture, poetry, calligraphy and so on. Each ticket was like a piece of exquisite artwork, showing the deep understanding and infinite creativity of SCBS students towards the culture of the Tang Dynasty. In the process of designing, students not only gained a deeper understanding of the culture of the Tang Dynasty, but also enhanced their comprehensive abilities through project-based learning. It also allows their learning to be more than just a moment's 'buzz', but to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice.
Activities in progress
Walking into the site, it was as if stepping into a picture scroll of ancient colours. Every corner exuded the scent of the Tang Dynasty, and the rhythm of poetry was as intoxicating as the spring breeze. This wonderful parade was hosted by the teachers, and students actively signed up to be volunteers as stall holders. Teachers and students worked together and enthusiastically devoted themselves to the preparation of this cultural feast, and together they created this poetic world of the Tang Dynasty with their enthusiasm and commitment.

Eight booths were carefully set up at the venue. The topography booth provided students with the opportunity to experience traditional skills, and through hands-on practice, students were able to gain a deeper understanding of the connotation of Tang poems, thus realising the cultivation objectives of cultural inheritance and self-confidence. The Tang Poetry Puzzle Booth became a stage for students to practise their language and thinking skills, and in the process of answering the verses, students demonstrated their quick thinking and solid language skills. The ancient costume making booth opened a window of knowledge for students who originally lacked knowledge about traditional costumes. In the process of making the costumes, they were able to touch the characteristics of the times carried by traditional costumes and feel the profoundness of traditional culture. The Tang Chinese dress changing booth allowed students to travel through time and space as if they were characters of the Tang Dynasty, reflecting on the past and deeply experiencing the poet's state of mind in such activities as playing the zither, effectively cultivating students' aesthetic ability.
These games and interactions enabled the students to appreciate the flavour of Tang Dynasty poetry, music and dance in a pleasant atmosphere, further stimulating their interest in traditional culture; at the same time, they experienced the beauty of Tang poetry's rhythms, thus stimulating their inner resonance.
Calligraphy experience area, the fragrance of ink overflowing, students waving ink, enjoy the Tang Dynasty calligraphy of the beauty of rigidity and flexibility; Chinese traditional musical instruments experience area, the melodious sound of music reverberates, leading the crowd immersed in the wonderful world of classical music; Tang Dynasty costume display and dance performances, gorgeous costumes, beautiful dance, as if recreating the Tang Dynasty's heyday of prosperity.
In the future, the activity will further expand its content by introducing rich traditional cultural elements and classical Chinese novels into the students' vision, creating a more diversified and in-depth learning experience for the students. We look forward to it!
After the activity

and
Best Booth Award
In this fantastic activity, we witnessed the perfect fusion of traditional culture and modern creativity. Several students won the Outstanding Design Award for Entrance Ticket and the Best Booth Award for their outstanding design talents and unique booth displays. This is not only an affirmation of their talent, but also the inheritance and promotion of the charm of the Tang Dynasty and the beauty of poetry.
‘Drinking Chinese Tea’ Special Event
Drinking Chinese Tea
In the activity, the teachers set up small stalls, on-site for the students to cook tea around the stove, curls of tea filled with a strong friendship between teachers and students, as if instantly travelling back to the era of poetry.
In order to better summarise the experience and gains of the event, and further deepen students' understanding and appreciation of Tang Dynasty culture, the teachers of the language group carefully organised and held the “Drinking Chinese Tea” Special Event.
Teachers and students conducted a comprehensive and detailed review of the Tang Poetry Parade. From the creative idea at the beginning of the preparation of the activity to the elaborate design of the site layout; from the lively scene at the time of the event to the lingering cultural charm after the activity, they all elaborated and analysed one by one. The students also expressed their unique experience and deep feelings in the activity on the questionnaire of the symposium of the activity.
