The election of House Captain for the term 2024-2025, which has attracted a lot of attention from the whole school, has officially begun! Since the founding of SCBS, SCBS has maintained a house system of management, naming houses after four great men/Women who have made outstanding contributions to human development - Gandhi, Mandela, Teresa, and Tu Youyou - as a way to inspire students to pursue academic excellence and carry forward the spirit of great men. The election received widespread attention from SCBS students, with 27 students signing up online to become candidates participating in the election.

The selection of the House Captain goes through several stages, starting with the evaluation and retention of the previous team members, followed by the registration, selection, and on-site interview sessions for candidates of the new team. After rounds of evaluations, the following 12 students have been finalized as members of the new House Captain team. Currently, the results of the House Captain election for the new academic year, as illustrated in the following figure, have been announced. Let us extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have been elected as the members of House Captain.

SCBS Parents' Committee meetings for all grades are not only an important bridge of communication between home and school, but also a profound practice of the concept of home-school co-education for all ages. Recently, a unique Parents' Committee meetings were held here. The participants included Mrs Joy Pan, the Chinese Executive Principal of SCBS, Mr Shawn Chen, the Director of Moral Education, the Heads of Grades and the Parent Ambassadors of the Middle School.

Children face different developmental challenges at different ages, and parents and schools need to work together to help them. At the new starting point of Primary School, G6 students need to work with their families and schools to pay attention to their mental health and all-round development, as well as to achieve effective communication, in order to help them pass this important stage of their lives smoothly and to lay a solid foundation for their future. As G7 students have just entered puberty and are developing rapidly both physically and mentally, it is important for parents and schools to pay attention to their psychological changes and guide them to establish correct values. G8 is the watershed of the middle school stage and the subjects are more difficult. Both home and school should pay attention to the students' learning methods and interest in learning to help them make a smooth transition. As G9 faces the pressure of promotion, it is all the more important for parents and schools to work hand in hand to create a relaxed and harmonious environment for children to grow up in. As one parent said, ‘To educate children, home and school can only go hand in hand to make children go further.’

Parent ambassadors had an in-depth exchange with the school leaders and the heads of each grade, and the school also introduced the achievements made in daily education and teaching, which provided useful assistance to the growth of SCBS students. The SCBS Middle School Parent Committee meeting not only demonstrated the importance the school attaches to home-school co-education, but also provided a platform for in-depth exchanges and mutual growth, and injected new vitality into home-school co-education at SCBS.

Congratulations to Gordon Chen for winning the Gold Prize in 2024 Yau Mathcamp Best Project Award. This award is a recognition of their own abilities and a reflection of the achievements of our school's education and teaching. May they continue to climb the heights and achieve great results in their future learning of Mathematics!

At the recently concluded SKT-SIC Global Competition, the team of four SCBS students - He Jiahuan He, Jevy Ju, Qichen Peng and Tianyue Shen - won the Top 2 ‘Most Favoured Fund Manager Team’ of 2024, which is very impressive. The team was notable for its outstanding performance in the competition. The team demonstrated excellent investment strength with their unique perspectives, keen insights and solid professional knowledge in the competition. They took on the role of wise fund managers and constructed investment portfolios with novel investment concepts, presenting a wonderful financing roadshow to the audience.

With unique investment strategies, keen market insights and excellent teamwork, the SCBS team has laid a solid foundation for the establishment of the SCBS Financial Investment Club by standing out from many powerful opponents in the recently concluded SKT-SIC Global Tournament. Now, the opening of SCBS Financial Investment Club aims to provide a platform for more students who are interested in the field of financial investment to learn, communicate and grow. They can share resources, collide ideas, stimulate creativity, and pursue academic excellence together.

It is believed that in the days to come, SCBS students will continue to study and delve deeper, and write a SCBS' new chapter in the field of financial investment with their unique insights and outstanding abilities.

In this vibrant month, the teachers of SCBS High School uniquely organised a unique charity run. This activity not only aimed to encourage students to strengthen their physical exercise and improve their physical fitness after studying, but also hoped that students would dedicate themselves to love in the exercise and practice the socialist core values with practical actions. At the end of the activity, all the money raised was donated to the project of Dreaming for the Left-behind Children in Xizang Province, so that the love of SCBS people can be continued.

At the beginning of the new school year, SCBS Primary School welcomed the first Parents‘ Ambassadors’ Meeting in this semester. The purpose of this meeting is to strengthen the co-operation between home and school and to create a healthy and harmonious environment for students to grow up. the school hopes to work together with parents in the process of home-school co-education, to pay attention to and participate in the process, so as to better guide the students to develop in an all-round way.

The Chinese and foreign management team of SCBS Primary School attended the meeting, and the Heads of each grade had face-to-face communication with the Parent Ambassadors, who participated and discussed together to build a solid bridge for home-school co-education.

The school specially arranged for the Parent Ambassadors to come to the school to observe the meals, so that they could experience first-hand the food hygiene and nutritional mix of the students at school. The Parent Ambassadors unanimously expressed that through the first-hand experience of this meal observation activity, they felt that the school attached great importance to food safety, and it also enabled them to have a more in-depth understanding of the students' life at school. They felt more at ease with the students' eating environment and dietary arrangements, and had more trust and support for the school's education and teaching work.

During the meal observation session, the parent ambassadors witnessed the transparent operation of the open kitchen. They also tasted the student meals and praised the traceability of the ingredients. One Parent Ambassador shared what she had seen and felt during the meal observation: ‘The kitchen has enhanced my trust in the school's catering service, and I feel very relieved when I see students eating nutritious meals in a clean and tidy environment. The school's dedication to food and drink makes me feel more confident about my children's growth here.’

At the beginning of the new semester, SCBS Primary School held its annual course briefing for each grade. The briefing was hosted by the Head of Grade with SCBS Primary Chinese principal, Mrs Janet Cai, and the Director of Curriculum, Mrs Helena Mc Donough. in attendance.

The Chinese and foreign teacher teams respectively provided detailed introductions on the Compulsory Education Curriculum and the Bilingual Integrated Curriculum. The introduction to the compulsory education curriculum included subject learning objectives, the key academic literacies and habits to be cultivated, as well as suggestions for joint education between schools and families. Especially for the new Grade One students this year, the focus was on the "new" aspects of the curriculum initiative, with an interpretation of the concepts and practical guidance. The school places great emphasis on the physical health of its students, and the curriculum briefing also arranged for an introduction to the school's measures to implement one physical education class per day and an hour of sunshine sports, an analysis of the physical fitness test data of students in different grades, and strategies for improvement.

Regarding English language learning, based on the grade-specific goals, the reading and writing classes, integrated themes (covering geography, history, science, and STEM subjects), as well as creative and sports-related (such as music, drama, sports) teaching modules and rich subject activities were introduced. Additionally, the bilingual Project-Based Learning (PBL) aligns with students' cognitive development, combining the educational advantages and resources to carry out inquiry-based learning. The project named "Dream of a Little Paper Piece" is particularly noteworthy and anticipated.

In view of physical and mental characteristics of students at different grade levels, the school has carefully designed targeted curriculum themes for each grade level, which are as follows: The G1's ‘Independence - I am a first grade primary student’ guides students to know themselves initially and cultivate a sense of independence; G2's ‘Socialising - I love my “home”’ allows students to learn to get along with others and integrate into collective life; G3's ‘Getting along with others’ allows students to learn to get along with others and integrate into collective life; In G4, ‘Independence - Young people should be strong’ encourages students to face difficulties bravely and exercise themselves; in G5, ‘Confidence - My future is not a dream’ inspires students' self-confidence and helps them to realise their dreams.

The school also invites parents to come into the classroom to have face-to-face communication with the Chinese and foreign tutors and subject teachers, so that parents can have a more intuitive experience of the students' growth and changes in school, and learn about their performance in various subjects, which can provide useful references for family education. This initiative also builds a bridge between parents and teachers, aiming to enable parents to have a deeper understanding of the growth process of each student, and to discover their strengths and potentials, so that they can work together with the school to help students' growth. At the end of the meeting, we also arranged for parents to walk into the class and communicate with Chinese and foreign tutors and subject teachers face to face. Parents came to their children's classrooms for the new semester to get a more visual view of the changes of Grade one students. Home-school interaction helps students grow up healthy.

SCBS Primary School has always regarded charitable activities as an important part of students‘ education, as well as an important way to cultivate students’ sense of social responsibility and to pass on the excellent traditional Chinese culture. During this month's Shanghai Charity Week, SCBS Primary School joined hands with the Huaihai Zhong Road Community Foundation in a unique charity event, deeply interpreting the theme of ‘Charity, Warming a City’.

In the Huaihai community charity activities, the school always actively participates and physically contributes to the continuation of public welfare and kindness. The school hopes that through such actions, kindness will take root and continue in the community. Up to now, SCBS has accumulated donations of RMB 12,520.

In the series of activities of Safety Education Month of SCBS Primary School, a unique ‘Guard Your Life, Safe Passage’ 2024 Traffic Safety Education Activity Speech attracted a lot of attention. In this activity, SCBS Primary School joined hands with Huangpu District Numerical Education Bureau and Huangpu Public Security Bureau to bring an educational lesson to students in the form of the first lesson of traffic safety. The event was not only in-depth but also unique, planting the seeds of safety and civilisation for the students.

In the process of preaching, also through interactive questions and answers and other forms, so that the students in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere to learn traffic safety knowledge. Thought-provoking is that the campaign not only tells the basic knowledge of traffic safety, but also in-depth analysis of the psychological causes of traffic violations. At the same time, the campaign also advocates green travel, civilised travel, guiding students from childhood to develop environmental protection, low-carbon habits.

This presentation resonated with the students. The students said that they learnt about traffic safety through this activity and felt the preciousness of life and the importance of responsibility.

During the Campus Safety Education Month, SCBS teachers and students carried out a series of activities. After visiting and studying the campus safety display boards, SCBS students also gave vivid campus safety publicity speeches. The Concord+ covers six dimensions: language development, humanities, academic competitions, creative thinking, aesthetics and arts, and sports empowerment. It provides systematic, specialised and interest-led activities for students from kindergarten to primary and middle school, helping them to explore their own interests outside the classroom and to cultivate their personal strengths.

Concord+ not only provides curricular activities to enhance students' specific abilities, but also organises various competitions and platforms for students to truly engage themselves in honing what they have learnt, recognising and experiencing the magic of teamwork, and achieving success in various activities and competitions, so that each student not only develops self-awareness but also appreciates the differences of others, and is not only able to face the classroom with full confidence but also open to others, society and the world. They will also be able to face others, the society and the world with an open heart.
