SCBS' Staff Training
Summer holidays are coming to an end.
The new semester has arrived as scheduled.
SCBS' staff training is also on schedule.
This is a new beginning.
It is also a new academic journey full of hope and challenges.
Hello, new semester!
As the afterglow of the holiday is gradually dispersing, all the teachers and students of SCBS are about to embark on the journey of the new semester. All staffs are actively engaged in the staff training before the start of the new school year with enthusiasm and professionalism, so as to make comprehensive, full and high-quality preparations for the arrival of the new semester.
Ms. Lijun Yin, SCBS Legal Principal
Looking back at the past year, we have witnessed together the power and temperature of education, which has not only made remarkable progress in academic performance, but also achieved fruitful results in the overall development of students, the construction of campus culture as well as the practice of educational innovation. In the new school year, we hope that we can work together to build a dream, set up a stage for students to realise their dreams, stimulate their potential, and let them go forward on the road of knowledge. Let's improve the quality of education through continuous innovation in education and teaching methods, so that every child can blossom in our campus with his or her own brilliance.
SCBS Executive Principal - Dr. Oliver Kramer
High school graduates in the Class of 2024 as in previous years, we still achieved 57% A*-A. The majority of our graduates went straight to their first choice university. Two of our students gained 4 A*s and a number of others gained at least 2 A*s. All of this recognises our model of education and the successful way in which it is delivered. We hope that all staff will keep their enthusiasm for new ideas and hearts alive throughout the new academic year.”
SCBS have also carefully designed and planned a wide variety of training contents, including teaching forums and moral education forums, as well as teaching and research group meetings, classroom preparation group activities, and meetings with the heads of each grade group and tutors. The aim is to help new staff integrate into the SCBS family quickly. The training covers education concepts, classroom management, moral education management, campus safety management, student counselling and home-school communication, etc., so as to improve the teaching and learning ability of all staff in an all-round way.
Teaching Forum
At the Teaching Forum of the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, Ms. Joy Pan, the Vice Principal, gave an insightful commentary on the school's actions in the context of the ‘Curriculum Programmes for Compulsory Education’. In her opinion, the school should uphold the concept of ‘respect for fundamentals, pragmatism, and esprit’ in the education reform, so as to create a harmonious and developmental environment for students, parents and teachers.
Ms. Joy Pan, SCBS Vice Principal
The essence of education lies in respect for the heart and development of the student, for the nature of the subject, and for individual differences. Schools, parents and students are in different environments, and teachers need to make accurate judgements to find the most practical interrelationships. In this regard, teachers and students should integrate theory and practice through project-based learning. SCBS has been running a walking programme for four seasons to allow students to think, accumulate and share in practice, and to develop their ability to solve practical problems. In the face of difficult problems in education, teachers should take the initiative to communicate with parents and resolve conflicts to make the road of education smoother. At the same time, teachers should keep searching for suitable teaching thinking in teaching practice as a way to achieve self-development, and they should also keep challenging themselves in the process of seeking knowledge and contributing to the development of the school. I hope all the teachers here can support each other and grow together in the team of SCBS, get like-minded partners, and reap the sense of self-pride and pride.
Mr. Tao Chen, the Director of Chinese Compulsory Education (MS), together with Ms. Kayla Ke, the Head of Teaching and Research, hosted a teaching forum with the theme of ‘Schools’ Actions in the Context of the ‘Curriculum Programmes for Compulsory Education’. In the forum, all teachers shared their exploration and experience in teaching practice around the core content of the ‘Curriculum Programmes for Compulsory Education’.
At the forum, teachers discussed in depth how to ‘adhere to the literacy orientation’ and ‘strengthen the practice of disciplines’, so as to further ‘promote integrated learning’ and truly ‘implement tailor-made teaching’. In the form of micro-forums, the students shared their successful cases in the teaching process and demonstrated how to enhance the comprehensive quality of academics through project-based learning, so as to continue to focus on the requirements of the ‘double-new’ in the new semester. In the new semester, we will continue to focus on the requirements of the ‘double new’ reform, strengthen the teaching and research work, innovate the form and content of teaching and research activities, ensure the effective implementation of the new curriculum programme and curriculum standards in the actual teaching and further deepen the reform of education and teaching, and promote the overall improvement of the quality of education and teaching in schools.
Moral Education Forum
At the third SCBS Moral Education Forum themed "Intelligent Communication, Strengthened Cooperation," Mr. Chen Xinrong, the Moral Education Director of SCBS Middle School, along with tutors, conducted reflections and discussions on the practice of effective home-school communication by analyzing cases of home-school communication. This laid a solid foundation for better home-school communication in the new semester.
Teachers who participated in the forum to share their teaching experience
During the week-long training, Ms. Janet Cai, the principal of SCBS Primary School and Ms. Helena Mc Donough, the director of international curriculum of SCBS Primary School, led SCBS Primary teachers to discuss and exchange ideas on the curriculum optimization for the new semester. They had interactive exchanges about how to integrate bilingual-bicultural education and give full play to the teaching advantages of bilingual schools. After the training, all the staff quickly devoted themselves to the preparation of teaching and research for the new semester. They worked together to actively discuss teaching methods and innovative curriculum design, striving to provide SCBS students with a more exciting learning experience in the new semester.
Dr. King, Head of Secondary Academic shared her opinions with teachers on curriculum, and her insights on how Chinese and foreign teachers can work together to improve SCBS curriculum learning methods and evaluation systems.
Mr. Tom Lawrence, the Honorary Vice Principal from our sister school, Concord College UK, also participated in the training and shared an overview of Concord College UK, expanding vision of international education, and he also expressed his good wishes for SCBS.
Campus Safety and Youth Protection
Campus safety and youth protection have always been the top priorities for SCBS all faculty. During this training, Mr. Xingrong Chen , the Director of Moral Education and Ms. Ying Lu, the Assistant Head of Curriculum and Moral Education Primary , conducted separate training sessions on the theme of campus safety and youth protection for teachers in the Middle School and Primary School respectively. Working together as a team, they are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of SCBS students as they embark on the new academic year.
New term, new chapter, new outlook.
SCBS will continue to care for the physical and mental health of students and endeavour to create a better academic environment.
So that students can enjoy a more fulfilling learning life.
SCBS is willing to work with every student.
We are ready to embrace the journey of the new semester together.
Facing the challenges and opportunities in future
We are looking forward to the fruitfulness and continuous growth!
