Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Lobito Corridor Summit Reception, a highly significant event that brought together senior government officials, business leaders, and representatives of American companies operating in Angola, such as Africell. However, it was a bit disappointing that President Joe Biden, who was expected to attend, did not make an appearance.
这次峰会的主题围绕着洛比托走廊项目，这是一个旨在推动南部非洲区域互联互通和经济发展的重要工程。通过升级和延伸贯穿安哥拉的本格拉铁路线（全长约1300公里），洛比托走廊计划将安哥拉的大西洋港口罗比托与刚果（金）和赞比亚的矿产资源区紧密相连。这不仅可以加速矿产和其他货物的运输，还能大幅促进区域间的贸易和经济一体化。
The Vision Behind the Lobito Corridor Project
The summit focused on the Lobito Corridor Project, an ambitious initiative designed to enhance regional connectivity and economic development in Southern Africa. By upgrading and extending the Benguela Railway, which spans approximately 1,300 kilometers across Angola, the Lobito Corridor aims to link the Atlantic port of Lobito with the mineral-rich regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. This project will not only improve the efficiency of transporting minerals and other goods but also significantly boost trade and economic integration across the region.
中美角力的关键一环

The United States has been a strong supporter of the Lobito Corridor Project, seeing it as a key initiative to strengthen infrastructure collaboration in Africa. The Biden administration has pledged$550 million in loansto support the refurbishment and expansion of the railway. This investment is also widely interpreted as a strategic move to counter China’s influence in Africa by offering alternative opportunities for growth and partnership.
商业与社交的完美结合
作为招待会的一部分，这次活动也成为一个非常重要的social networking platform(社交平台)。各国部长、州长、以及多家大企业的代表悉数到场。比如 Africell 这家美资电信运营商，自 2022 年进入安哥拉市场以来，短短几年间就已经覆盖了多个省份，用户数突破数百万。这家公司提供的低成本、高覆盖的电信服务，不仅提升了通信水平，也在推动社会与金融的包容性发展方面做出了贡献。

The reception was an excellent networking platform, attracting ministers, governors, and representatives from leading enterprises. Among them, Africell stood out as a noteworthy example. Since entering the Angolan market in April 2022, this U.S.-owned telecommunications company has rapidly expanded its operations to multiple provinces, including Luanda and Benguela, gaining millions of subscribers. By providing affordable and wide-reaching telecom services, Africell has not only enhanced connectivity but also contributed significantly to promoting social and financial inclusion.

This event offered valuable insights into Africa’s immense potential in infrastructure development, regional collaboration, and international investment. It was inspiring to witness the collective efforts of various stakeholders in paving the way for Africa’s growth and connectivity. I am excited about the opportunities for future collaboration with these exceptional enterprises and influential individuals。
