新闻里 on the news
“Funny stuff on the news,” Mr. Dursley mumbled. “Owls... shooting stars... and there were a lot of funny-looking people in town today...”
on the news:
Was there anything interesting on the news tonight?
I usually watch the early evening/late night news.

Mrs. Dursley sipped her tea through pursed lips.
这里的the pursing of the lips应该是撅起嘴唇哦!
She pursed her lips in disapproval.
My wife and I often had to pawn(质押;典当) things when we were in need of money, and while at first we managed to make both ends meet, gradually our purse became thinner and thinner.
As the proverb says:
“To run a family and mix socially, money is the first essential.”
这里的入不敷出,翻译为“钱包变薄” 👉 our purse became thinner and thinner。
