In 2012, it was listed in the national "intangible Cultural heritage protection name, Chaozhou inlaid porcelain has a long history, as early as the Ming Dynasty Wanli years has been used in the folk. The old folk sculpture was in a prosperous period, and began to use porcelain pieces cut into simple flowers and inlaid on buildings. In the Qing Dynasty, Chaoshan built ancestral halls and "four horse trailers" and other luxury residential style, decoration on the buildings above the porcelain technology has further development. Based on gray plastic, the process of using cut porcelain pieces for surface decoration and inlaying and pasting various images is called "inlaying porcelain".

Inlay porcelain is a kind of traditional folk art that uses waste porcelain pieces to inlay and paste on the roof ridge and wall of buildings to achieve the purpose of decoration. Inlaid porcelain has round carving, relief, flat decoration and other forms. Appeared in the late Ming Dynasty, there are three reasons:

First, Chaoshan region through the Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming historical changes, has a long history, rich products, cultural prosperity, cultural prosperity, and increasingly rich folk customs, providing the necessary conditions for the production of porcelain decorative art.

Second, Chaoshan Plain mostly belongs to the South Asian tropical monsoon climate, the maritime climate is obvious. There is plenty of light and rain. At the same time, Chaozhou wood carving with strong local characteristics is skilled and delicate in techniques, mainly used for interior decoration of civil buildings, but wood carving is not suitable for hot and cold and uneven wet and dry, therefore, it should only be used as indoor carving, not suitable for outdoor decoration, so that the embedded porcelain has the function of wood carving can not be replaced.

Third, before the Ming Dynasty, the color of ceramics was relatively monotonous, only to develop to the Ming Dynasty, especially in the Jiajing, Wanli period, there was a "wucai porcelain". It opens up a new world for ceramic decoration. Inlay porcelain needs rich color, and the development of color porcelain technology provides the necessary conditions for inlay porcelain.

Inlaid porcelain is divided into three types: flat inlaid, floating inlaid and three-dimensional inlaid, commonly known as "exciting" or "sticking". This is a complex art fine work, to be based on painting, using colorful porcelain pieces as raw materials, need to knock, tailoring, Mosaic, bonding, stacking and other processes, pay attention to composition, shape, color, level, charm, etc. According to this classification method, the roof generally three ways will be used. With the arrival of the new era, it is also useful to make handicrafts of these three methods, beautiful and gorgeous, and long aftertaste. The inlaid porcelain is colorful and dazzling. Inlaid porcelain arts and crafts have been exposed to wind and rain and the scorching sun without fading, and can not be replaced by other crafts in humid areas with large annual rainfall, high summer temperature and often affected by typhoons.
