Intracranial and extracranial artery dissections represent critical vascular conditions that can precipitate significant neurological deficits and mortality. These dissections can result in cerebral infarction and hemorrhage, underpinning their potential to cause profound disruptions in neural function and structural integrity. The covert nature of disease onset, coupled with frequent overlapping comorbid conditions, renders early diagnosis challenging. Diagnostic delays are common until overt manifestation of symptoms, such as hemorrhage or cerebral infarction, occurs.

This research topic is designed to deepen the understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms and diagnostic strategies for intracranial and extracranial artery dissections. It strives to disseminate novel theoretical frameworks, diagnostic tools, therapeutic interventions, and technological advancements in the study of artery dissection. The objective is to foster significant enhancements in the prognosis and management of this debilitating condition by leveraging contemporary research and innovations.

Given the multifaceted presentation of artery dissection and its intricate association with various atypical symptoms, the scope of this special issue is broad yet focused. We aim to explore the complex interactions between artery dissection and its related comorbidities, which may span across multiple disciplines including neurology, psychiatry, psychology, pain management, and regenerative medicine.

○  Novel therapeutic approaches and outcome assessments

○ Interdisciplinary research involving psychological, psychiatric, and somatic interrelations

○ Reviews and perspectives on long-term management strategies and clinical outcomes

Submissions may include original research articles, comprehensive review papers, commentaries, perspectives, clinical guidelines, and letters to the Editor. 

We encourage authors to present cutting-edge research that challenges existing paradigms and fosters new lines of inquiry into this complex medical phenomenon.
