UAE’s Emsteel, Masdar launch green DRI pilot
阿拉伯联合酋长国钢铁市场的领导者Emsteel和阿布扎比未来能源公司（Masdar）在阿布扎比的试点工厂成功投产，利用绿色氢气生产绿色钢材。
United Arab Emirates steel market leader Emsteel and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) have successfully commissioned their Abu Dhabi-based pilot plant to produce green steel using green hydrogen.
Kallanish（开阑商务信息咨询）获悉，两家公司在一份联合声明中表示，该试点项目现已全面投入运营，并已开始生产绿色钢材，证明绿色氢气在钢铁生产中的潜力。
The pilot project is now fully operational and has begun producing green steel, demonstrating green hydrogen’s potential in steel production, the firms say in a joint statement seen byKallanish.
该项目在中东和北非地区尚属首例，包括在阿布扎比利用可再生能源生产清洁氢气的电解槽。这些氢气随后被输送到Emsteel的直接还原工厂，用于炼铁试验。
This first-of-its-kind project in the Middle East and North African region comprises electrolysers producing clean hydrogen using renewable energy in Abu Dhabi. This hydrogen is then fed to direct reduction plants at Emsteel for trials in iron-making.

The project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Policy, which promotes low-carbon hydrogen as a future clean energy source. The policy complements the UAE National Hydrogen Strategy, which aims to establish the UAE as a global leader in low-carbon hydrogen production by 2031.
所生产的可再生氢气已通过Avance实验室的认证，该实验室是国际跟踪标准基金会认可的氢气代码管理机构，采用新的ISO 19870氢气方法。必维国际检验集团作为第三方保证提供商对该认证数据进行了验证。
The renewable hydrogen produced has been certified by Avance Labs, the hydrogen code manager accredited by the International Tracking Standard Foundation, following the new ISO 19870 methodology for hydrogen. Bureau Veritas validated this certification data as the third-party assurance provider.

“We are committed to advancing decarbonisation efforts in support of the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Our achievements thus far include using clean energy sources for over 80% of our energy needs in 2023. Emsteel is also the first steelmaker globally to capture part of its CO2 emissions, achieving a carbon intensity 45% lower than the global average,” says Saeed Al Remeithi, group chief executive of Emsteel.

To further promote sustainable building materials, including green steel, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launched the National Green Certificates Program in July.
