编者的话
Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles means reading more books while connecting reality.“读万卷书,行万里路”,意在多多读书接触实际,开阔眼界增进见识。

Road to Brazil
From Miami to Sao Paulo 迈阿密到圣保罗
July 23, 2013 (Tuesday)
We left the Toronto International Airport at 2:45 p.m. for Miami. When transferring at the United States airport, I received the boarding passes for both from Toronto to Miami and from Miami to Sao Paulo. However, the the other two only had the boarding passes from Toronto to Miami. We did not know why. The staff told us that the tickets were confirmed. This American Airline at the Toronto Airport did not have enough boarding passes for Miami to Sao Paulo. We would need to get them at Miami, the United States.
At the customs entrance, there was a story to take place. A lady at the customs asked for my friend to show the travel document. My friend might not listen clearly to it and replied “no”. After then he found it and gave it to the lady who felt that my friend did not tell the truth. So he was asked for getting in to further check. They did for several minutes. My friend told that he was checked for everything.
As the thing was set, we all got in the gate to Miami. For about three-hour flight, we arrived in Miami Airport where it was a modern building complex. We walked from the middle of the building to the end at TAM, a Brazilian operating company for about 15 minutes. At the TAM counter, we were well received by the counter staff. As the seats were all full, three of us had different places to seat. Gloria asked for the staff to get us together. A very nice staff helped us. From Miami about 9:00 p.m. to Sao Paulo about 6:00 a.m., we spent a whole night for about 9 hours with two meals to be served. The flight staffs were quite professional, which gave us some impressive experience internationally.
Arrived in Sao Paulo 到达巴西圣保罗
A new place where we never went was coming and we were going to see many new things. When at Miami, we found that the Internet would need to pay for using. My friend had to send a message to the Brazilian colleagues by his Blackberry. Hopefully the message could be received. Fortunately, the airport had an electronic plug, which allowed us to write the message down at the Airport.
We got off the flight at the Sao Paulo (SP) Airport about 6:00 a.m. It was raining and the temperature was about 11 degree. We exited from the Immigration Gate. After then, we spent quite a lot of time waiting for the luggage. My luggage was inspected. My friend inquired that we got off from the Terminal 1 and went to the Terminal 2 for domestic flights. At the Terminal 2, we found a small window for the domestic airline called the GOL Intelligence.
Fortunately, our reserved flight was adjusted by the Brazilian colleagues to the afternoon at 1:15 p.m. because of the delayed travel. This was the Ottawa time about 7:00 a.m., and local time about 8:00 a.m. We still had time for the flight to Maringa. So we came to the bar and bought a cup of coffee costed for R$6, equivalent to about CA$3, which was quite expensive, I felt. We were relaxing and chatted to wait for flying to Maringa, a final destination.
