Kazakhstan extends export ban on scrap
Kazakhstan has extended its ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap and waste, from 2 November for a further six months.
This is according to the order – No. 370 – of the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, dated 21 October, “on certain issues of regulating the export of ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap and waste,” states a note on Kazakhstan’s legal portal monitored byKallanish.
The ban applies to copper, aluminium, lead scrap, lead-acid batteries, and other materials containing lead, cadmium, or mercury, as well as black metal scrap, used pipes, rails, and railway parts.
It includes all types of transport. For railway vehicle parts intended for repair, companies must submit the necessary documentation five days prior to crossing the border and provide reports on the repairs within five days of re-entry.
The six-month ban, originally introduced in October 2022 to boost local supply for domestic enterprises facing scrap shortages, has since been extended consecutively.
