Chinese and French Science Fiction Artists in Nanshan
Renowned French illustrator Gilles Francescano and comic book artist Nicolas Petrimaux stopped to admire the colourful and endlessly imaginative drawings of students hanging on the walls of the school' s auditorium. Gilles drew a future campus for kids, which will be located in the outer space with a beautiful wish that science and nature would be symbiotic, it motivated kids' imagination and exploration greatly.

To the Future
With the conclusion of the Chinese and French artists' visit to Shekou International School(SIS) on 19th November, the Chinese/French Artists Exchange Program Season Ⅲ has come to an end. It is reported that the event was hosted by the Nanshan District People's Government and undertaken by the Foreign Affairs Office of Nanshan and the Shekou Sub-district Office, focusing on the theme of "SciFi and Fantasy", and a series of colourful activities were held, including the Inaugural Event, Chinese/French SciFi and Fantasy Exhibition, Forum of Chinese/French SciFi and Fantasy, Chinese/French Artists in Schools, French Bazaar, and so on.The event brought together some top artists, science fiction writers and film and TV special effects experts from China and France, which not only deepened the cultural exchanges between China and France, but also injected new vitality into the construction of Shenzhen's international city.
随着11月19日中法艺术家走进蛇口外籍人员子女学校活动的结束，第三季中法艺术大师国际交流系列活动也进入尾声。据悉，此次活动由南山区人民政府主办，南山区委外办、蛇口街道办事处承办，围绕“科幻与想象力”主题，举办了包括启动仪式、中法艺术作品展、中法艺术沙龙、中法艺术家进校园、法式生活体验区等一系列丰富多彩的活动。活动汇聚了来自中法两国众多顶尖艺术家、科幻作家及影视特效专家参与，不仅加深了中法文化交流，也为深圳的国际城区建设注入新的活力。
Chinese/French SciFi and Fantasy Exhibition:
Infinite Imagination of Future Worlds
After the inaugural event, the exhibition was officially opened to the public, as it brings together the classic works of a number of Chinese and French art masters, as well as the unique imagination of the younger generation of artists on the future. These works cover a number of sci-fi themes such as deep space exploration, mysteries of the deep sea, artificial intelligence, etc. With their unique perspectives and exquisite skills, they show the infinite charm of sci-fi art. In particular, the advanced photonic film technology used in the exhibition makes the works present amazing visual effects, as if the sci-fi world is within reach.
启动仪式后，中法艺术大师科幻与想象力作品展正式对外开放。展览汇集了中法两国多位艺术大师的经典作品，以及年轻一代艺术家对未来的独特想象。这些作品涵盖了深空探索、深海奥秘、人工智能等多个科幻主题，以其独特的视角和精湛的技艺，展现了科幻艺术的无限魅力。特别是展览中运用了先进的光子膜技术，使得作品呈现出令人惊叹的视觉效果，仿佛科幻世界触手可及。

Zhao Enzhe said in an interview that this exhibition and series of activities will promote the relatively niche art genre of science fiction art to the public, realize the transmission of aesthetic education, and hope that this way can allow the public to embrace art and release their nature through art. Art Dialogue Salon:
From the Marvel Universe to Wandering Earth
On the afternoon of November 17th, Chinese/French Artists Exchange Program Season Ⅲ - "An Artistic Conversation from the Marvel Universe to Wandering Earth" Salon event was successfully held at the Linggan Square in Nantou Ancient City, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Chinese and French artists and science fiction writers gathered together for a deep dialogue on imaginative creation, jointly exploring the future direction of art development.

Zhao Enzhe delivered a speech on the theme of "Wisdom Revival", sharing his unique insights and valuable experience in artistic creation. He pointed out that the progress of each generation of tools is a leap of imagination, especially in today's rapidly developing digital technology, where this trend is particularly significant. Zhao Enzhe emphasized that modern artists should break away from rigid thinking and actively use the latest technological tools such as OpenAI's SORA, Runway, and Pika. These tools can not only improve creative efficiency, but also make art more accessible to the public, achieving a transformation from minority to public. Zhao said that art creation should not be limited to the display of a single work, but should build a rich and colorful world.

In the field of game development, Zhao Enzhe pointed out that with the partial automation of production pipelines, there will be an increase in “super individuals” who are proficient in the entire process in the future. These talents are able to independently complete complex projects. By delegating repetitive tasks to tools, designers can focus more on creativity, thus creating more exquisite works.

Gilles Francescano: The Charm of Hand-painted Art
Gilles Francescano, a famous French illustrator, has been active in the field of illustration since 1989, specializing in science fiction and fantasy themes. At the Chinese/French Art Salon, he introduced one of his masterpieces - “The Magician”, a detailed black and white illustration that took him a whole week to finish. He emphasizes that he does not use AI technology during the creation process, and that this hand-painted process allows him to immerse himself more deeply in the world of painting, and is also a way of respecting and paying homage to the original.

Gilles Francescano shared his impressions of Shenzhen as a “science fiction city”, especially the buildings, which seem to come from the infinite creativity of the architects. He mentioned his experience at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, which not only looked futuristic, but also inspired him.

Xiao Zhuangyue: Paint Dreams and Create the World
Xiao Zhuangyue introduced XRCG Academy, which he founded in 2012 in his keynote speech “Paint Dreams and Create the World”. The academy is dedicated to cultivating high-end talents in the fields of games and animation, and has so far provided more than 5,000 professionals to the games and animation industry, with its influence spreading all over the world.

Xiao Zhuangyue specially shared more than ten of his representative works. These works fully display the charm of the combination of art and technology, and also reflect the concern and reflection on social issues.Among them, “Infrastructure of China” is a creative work themed on China's construction achievements in recent years. Over 50 iconic buildings and engineering projects, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Beijing Daxing International Airport, are integrated into a circular space station in a futuristic world by means of being overhead, showing China's brilliant achievements in infrastructure construction.

Building on this foundation, the idea of "a beginning and an end" ensures the structural integrity of the story. Clarifying the hierarchy of ideas helps in constructing a complex yet organized plot. Dialogue not only propels the plot but also reveals character personalities. Careful design of settings and character movements enhances the visual effects. Creating atmosphere is crucial for generating specific emotions, allowing the audience to resonate with the story. The management of pacing is vital for maintaining the audience's interest. Camera composition and the handling of movement require the director to focus on visual expression, ensuring that each shot is expressive. Nicolas Petrimaux stated that this comprehensive and meticulous approach to creation has a profound impact on all fields of visual arts.

Liang Chaopo: The Journey of Pursuing Dreams
Specialist in special effects for film and television, Liang Chaopo, shared his career development and personal struggles. In 2007, he came to Shenzhen and worked as a programmer in a foreign company, which began his inexorable relationship with special effects for film. He particularly mentioned their involvement in the VFX production of Wandering Earth, especially responsible for the moon explosion scene. In order to complete this arduous task before the Spring Festival of 2023, the team members worked overtime for several months, and finally succeeded in presenting stunning visual effects, which became an important achievement for special effects science fiction films in China.
影视特效专家梁潮坡分享了他的职业发展和个人奋斗的历程。他于2007年来到深圳，在一家外资公司担任程序员，开始了与电影特效的不解之缘。他特别提到，他们参与《流浪地球》的特效制作，特别是负责了“月球爆炸”的场景。为了在2023年春节前完成这项艰巨的任务，团队成员连续数月加班加点，最终成功地呈现了令人震撼的视觉效果。
Recently, the animation production of the Shenzhen-China Corridor completed by his guidance to college students in Shenzhen was officially screened on CCTV.This work shows the construction process of this world-class cross-sea channel in one shot, which is not only a technical challenge, but also a tribute to the wisdom and efforts of Chinese builders.

After the creative "An Artistic Conversation from the Marvel Universe to Wandering Earth" Salon event, from November 18th to 19th, with the theme of “SciFi and Fantasy”, the “Chinese/French Artists on Campus” event, one of a series of cultural engagements that are part of the Chinese/French Artists Exchange Program Season Ⅲ was launched in Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Shenzhen OCT Primary School:
A Fusion of Creativity and Tradition
On the morning of November 18, the event kicked off under the big banyan tree at Shenzhen OCT Primary School. Holding the welcome sign written in Chinese, French and English with the words “Nice to meet you”, the students lined up to enthusiastically greet the famous French artists. The students happily waved the welcome sign in their hands and shouted “Bienvenue! (Welcome!) in their youthful voices to express their warm welcome to the artists.
11月18日上午，活动在华侨城小学的大榕树下拉开帷幕。学生们手持着写有“很高兴认识你”的中法英三语的欢迎牌，整齐列队，热情洋溢地迎接来自法国的艺术家们。孩子们开心地挥动手中的欢迎牌，用稚嫩的声音喊着“Bienvenue!”（欢迎你！），表达着对远道而来的艺术家们的热烈欢迎。
On that day, OCT Primary School also welcomed the unveiling ceremony of the "Rong Art Gallery"，inviting two French artists to witness this historic moment together.Mr. Cheng Bin, Deputy Curator of He Xiangning Art Museum, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. He emphasized the importance of art education and the significance of this museum school cooperation. This art gallery not only provides a place for children to experience art works and feel the artistic atmosphere, but also greatly enriches the school's art resources through cooperation with He Xiangning Art Museum.
当天，华侨城小学还迎来了一个重要时刻——“榕·美术馆”揭幕。为了使这一刻更加难忘，学校特意将它安排在法国艺术家到访的日子举行，邀请了两位艺术家共同见证这一历史性的瞬间。何香凝美术馆副馆长程斌出席仪式并致辞。他强调了艺术教育的重要性以及此次馆校合作的意义。华侨城小学“榕·美术馆”从建立之初就承载着独特的使命，不仅为孩子们提供接触美术作品、感受艺术氛围的场所，还通过与何香凝美术馆的合作，极大丰富了学校的艺术资源，馆校共建，芬芳可待。
Subsequently, in the art classroom, students had a face-to-face painting exchange with two French artists. Within 20 minutes, Gilles Francescano drew a lifelike tree inspired by banyan trees.Gilles Francescano said that he drew this because he just learned that the banyan tree is the spiritual symbol of the school and witnesses the school’s growth and development. He hopes to convey the importance of protecting the natural environment and inheriting the spirit of the school through this painting.

Nicolas Petrimaux drew a comic character - a man wearing mechanical glasses - and gave him the mission of guarding five banyan trees in school. He quickly sketched the outline of this character on the drawing paper and then drew the details of the character. The students were fascinated by the painting and were eager to ask Nicolas for painting tips. Nicolas guided and modified some of the students' paintings, and even completed a few works with them.
在第二组，尼古拉斯·佩特里莫则选择了一个漫画人物——一个戴着AI眼镜的男子，并赋予他守卫五棵大榕树的使命。佩特里莫快速地在画纸上勾勒出这个人物的轮廓，然后用细腻的笔触描绘出人物细节。学生们被这幅画作深深吸引，争先恐后地向艺术家请教绘画技巧。
Finally, the Chinese and French artists watched the students' performances. Peking Opera, Hulusi, dragon fist martial arts and court dances were performed. These performances not only showcase the unique charm of Chinese culture, but also let foreign friends appreciate the profoundness of traditional Chinese culture.
最后，中法艺术家们还观看了学生们的表演。京剧、葫芦丝演奏、龙拳武术以及佾舞等节目，不仅展现了中华文化的独特魅力，也让外国友人领略到了中国传统文化的博大精深。
Shenzhen Nanshan Arts and Sciences Experimental School:
The Collision of Science Fiction and Imagination
On the afternoon of November 18, Chinese and French artists visited the Shenzhen Nanshan Arts and Sciences Experimental School. The event started with a wonderful Chinese dance performance. Then, Gilles Francescano took the stage to give a talk. Gilles explained the ideas and meanings behind his works and emphasized the importance of color and imagination. He illustrated how digital tools are applied in the painting process, expanding the audience’s artistic horizons. Meanwhile, Gilles shared his connection to Shenzhen, noting how the city had given him a sense of being in a science fiction world, sparking his creativity.

Later, Nicolas Petrimaux first introduced the works of his close friend, Aleksi Briclot, known for his work in visual development for several Hollywood blockbusters. Aleksi recently published a new book, Multiverse. Through showcasing and analyzing his own artwork, Nicolas discussed how to create based on different needs and aesthetic preferences, highlighting the importance of detail and atmosphere.

At the end, Liang Chaopo, renowned CG effects artist and founder of Shenzhen MadCats Digital Media Co., Ltd. Through playing a special effects videos he had produced, he not only demonstrated the power of technology but also expressed his unique perspective on the future world.

On the morning of November 19th, French artists Gilles Francescano and Nicolas Petrimaux walked into the Shekou International School (SIS).
11月19日上午，法国艺术家吉尔·弗朗西斯卡诺和尼古拉斯·佩特里莫走进了蛇口外籍人员子女学校。
Gilles Francescano and Nicolas Petrimaux were attracted by a series of drawings from SIS students,they showed their active imagination as well as the friendship between China and France. Especially one drawing combining the Chinese dragon with the Eiffel Tower impressed everyone. Gilles and Nicolas shared their creative process and insights from their exhibited works.Then they started their improvisation. Nicolas made a vivid self-portrait during his sharing, which won lots of applauds from kids.

The successful hosting of Chinese/French Artists Exchange Program Season Ⅲ is not only a grand event for cultural exchange between China and France, but also a deep exploration and promotion of science fiction art.
