What does it mean to you to be a community builder?
Being a community builder means more than just creating a supportive and inclusive environment; it’s about empowering others to reach their full potential. As a Chinese woman and an international student, I’ve faced the challenges of adapting to a new country, and I’ve learned the importance of resilience and self-empowerment. Leading by example, I strive to show other students that they too can overcome obstacles, achieve their goals, and become leaders. Community building is not just about bringing people together; it involves inspiring others to strive for excellence and believe in their own ability to make a difference. By being a role model, I believe I should demonstrate that with hard work and determination, we can achieve great things and help others do the same. This approach fosters a sense of self-empowerment, encouraging others to see themselves as capable of leading and contributing to the community. Additionally, being a community builder requires the courage to explore new ideas and take on challenges, understanding that the strength of a community comes from the diverse talents and perspectives of its members. By fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated, we inspire individuals to empower others, creating a continuous cycle of support, empowerment, and leadership that strengthens the entire community.
What leadership / community activities are you involved in and what is your role? What are the major achievements you are proud of in this role/these roles?
As a Chinese woman committed to making a social impact, I have actively taken on leadership roles to support Chinese students and help them succeed. As the President of the Ivey International Business Club (IIBC), I played a key role in organizing a successful trip to Hong Kong that connected 20 Western students, including many Chinese students, with over 10 companies and more than 40 alumni. This trip not only provided valuable networking opportunities but also strengthened the ties within our Chinese student community.
This year, I am planning to expand these efforts by organizing more local events in Canada and a trip to the U.S., inviting not only students from Western University but also representatives from other universities. In addition to this, I organized a new student orientation event in China, in collaboration with top local Chinese students clubs like CCGC and CSSA. Nearly 100 Chinese students benefited from guidance on academics, life abroad, involvement in student clubs and internships. I understood the unique challenges these students faced and made it my mission to ensure they had the resources and support needed to thrive in their new environment. As the Chief Marketing Officer for the Global Research Consulting Group, I expanded our organization's reach by conducting marketing workshops for over 20 branches and organizing online events that connected Chinese students worldwide. These efforts fostered a global community where Chinese students could share their experiences and support one another.
Most importantly, in my role as the Chief Diplomatic Officer for the Global Youth Summit (世青峰CGYS), I built relationships with nearly 200 Chinese student clubs across. These connections were instrumental in helping thousands of Chinese students find internships and full-time jobs, providing them with the support they needed to advance their careers. Beyond these roles, I have personally helped over 20 people around me find internships and connect with our alumni network. As an international student, I have also made a point of joining local organizations to represent our community and showcase the value that international students bring. My roles include VP Flagship at Aleph Consulting Group, Project Designer at Women in Tech Society, and Career Profile Advisor at Western’s Employment Resources Center, where I have helped over 40 people revise their resumes and improve their career prospects. Overall, my leadership extends beyond Ivey to the entire Western community. I not only help Chinese students but also demonstrate the capabilities of Chinese students to others. My impact is not limited to Canada; I assist Chinese students in finding jobs across Canada, the UK, the US, and China. Most importantly, as the Chief Diplomatic Officer of CGYS, I build connections with students not only in Canada but also with nearly 200 Chinese Students and Scholars Associations (CSSAs) worldwide, becoming a key opinion leader among them.
Please tell us why you deserve to be recognized as a rising star?
I believe I deserve to be recognized as a rising star because of my unwavering commitment to supporting Chinese students and making a meaningful social impact as a Chinese woman. Throughout my leadership roles, I have worked tirelessly to create opportunities, build supportive communities, and ensure that Chinese students have the resources and networks they need to succeed. My efforts have not only connected Chinese students with global opportunities but have also helped them navigate the challenges of studying and working abroad. By joining and contributing to local organizations, I have also represented the international student community, demonstrating the value we bring and bridging the gap between international and local students. As a Chinese woman, I am passionate about making a positive social impact and empowering others to do the same. My dedication to building strong, supportive communities and my track record of success are why I believe I am deserving of the WeWorkingWomen 2024 Rising Star Award. I am committed to continuing this journey of empowerment and support, and I hope to inspire others to join me in strengthening our community.

What does it mean to you to be a community builder?
What leadership / community activities are you involved in and what is your role? What are the major achievements you are proud of in this role/these roles?
Please tell us why you deserve to be recognized as a rising star?

What does it mean to you to be a community builder?
What leadership / community activities are you involved in and what is your role? What are the major achievements you are proud of in this role/these roles?
Please tell us why you deserve to be recognized as a rising star?
