Role of ICT in heritage safeguarding and community development
Ghana is home to several World Heritage sites that hold immense cultural and historical significance. These sites include forts and castles, which are not only symbols of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, but also serve as crucial links to the global community. However, there is a pressing need to enhance the quality and experiences at these sites, in order to deepen the lessons of the past that they represent, while attracting more visitors, especially in a rapidly evolving digital world.
UNESCO Accra, in collaboration with various stakeholders, aims to utilize modern ICT tools to promote Culture and the Creative Arts, as a means for sustainable development. This proposal seeks funding and technical support, in a bid to develop innovative digital solutions that will make Ghana’s World Heritage sites more engaging, educational and accessible.
By integrating technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR), we aim to create immersive experiences that not only preserve, but which also promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
