CHENNAI, Oct 9 (Reuters) - A group of more than 1,000 striking workers at the Samsung Electronics factory in southern India has rejected a settlement offer made by the company on wage hikes, with the sit-in protest entering its second month on Wednesday.

Samsung this week made a proposal to provide a monthly incentive of 5,000 rupees ($60) until March, more air conditioned buses, a diversified cafeteria menu and a gift card of $24 in case of a child birth, according to the settlement document seen by Reuters.

State industries minister T.R.B. Rajaa said on Tuesday Samsung had agreed to fulfil 14 demands and was willing to discuss more, but the "workers should return to work" and all their demands, including union recognition, will be considered.

The central probe agency said Vivo Mobile India remitted crores to trading companies controlled by Vivo China under the garb of payment for imported goods since 2014.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Vivo China in February, alleging that the company “controlled and monopolized all the operations of Vivo Mobiles in India through Vivo India and its 23 state distributor companies,” according to an exclusive report by the Indian Express. The ED alleges that the company siphoned off Rs 70,000 crore from India “under the garb of imports.”

NEW DELHI: IPO-bound Hyundai Motor India Ltd will explore opportunities for exporting its upcoming electric vehicles from the country to other similar markets to enhance its position as a production hub for emerging markets, according to a senior company official. The company is lining up four electric vehicles to be launched in future, including the electric version of its popular SUV Creta by Q4 FY25, in the mass and 'mass premium' segments.

ANKARA, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Turkey imposed anti-dumping duties on some steel imports from China, Russia, India and Japan, an Official Gazette announcement said on Friday, with the highest tariffs on Chinese imports, boosting stocks of flat steel producers.

Ankara's decision comes amid rising trade tensions between China and the European Union over tariffs on electric vehicles, brandy and other goods, and follows China's complaint to the World Trade Organisation on import duties imposed on Chinese EVs entering Turkey.

NEW DELHI, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance has privately argued that the telecom regulator incorrectly concluded that home satellite broadband spectrum should be allocated and not auctioned, a letter seen by Reuters shows, intensifying a face-off with Elon Musk's Starlink.

Musk's Starlink and global peers like Amazon's Project Kuiper back an administrative allocation, while Ambani - Asia's wealthiest man who runs India's Reliance Jio - is arguing for an auction process.

New Delhi: The government on Sunday imposed import curbs on parts of pocket lighters with immediate effect, a move which would help encourage domestic manufacturing and cut dependence on their inbound shipments from China.

"Import of parts of pocket lighters, gas fuelled, non-refillable or refillable lighters (cigarette lighters) ... is restricted with immediate effect," the directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Imports of cigarette lighters, priced less than Rs 20, are already prohibited. The import ban is also there on pocket lighters, gas-fuelled, non-refillable or refillable.

Last year, the government also issued mandatory quality standard norms for flame-producing lighters with a view to contain import of sub-standard goods and boost domestic manufacturing.

Items under the quality control orders (QCO), cannot be produced, sold/traded, imported and stocked unless they bear the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) mark.

NEW DELHI, Oct 8 (Reuters) - China's BYD wants to make cars in India but has received no "direct" signal from New Delhi on a possible easing of stringent investment rules for Chinese businesses, a top executive said, as the automaker seeks to expand in a fast-growing market.

BYD, the world's largest maker of battery-powered cars, is staying away from the Indian government’s new flagship scheme aimed at attracting prominent foreign electric vehicle companies to manufacture in the country, a top company official said.

While the EV giant plans to continue importing fully built-up cars in India in the short term as opposed to manufacturing or assembling in India, it will bank on its headquarters in Shenzhen to keep prices attractive, not on the government's import duty concessions, Rajeev Chauhan, head of BYD's India electric passenger vehicle business, told Mint on Tuesday.

The company found it will be unable to fulfil the criteria laid down in the government's scheme to attract foreign carmakers, such as Tesla, to set up shop in India by granting them import duty concessions against a commitment of local manufacturing at a minimum investment of $5OO million in India, he said.

Oct 11 (Reuters) - Indian benchmarks logged daily and weekly losses on Friday, weighed down by foreign outflows, slowing corporate earnings and escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The NSE Nifty 50 lost about 0.2%, while S&P BSE Sensex shed 0.4% this week. They lost about 4.5% each last week as well, the worst decline since June 2022.

Both indexes are down 5% from record-highs hit on Sept. 27 and have posted losses in eight of the last 10 sessions.

India stands to benefit from the US further restricting investments into strategic sectors in China, thereby reducing global companies' exposure in that country, Moody's Ratings said Friday.

While more protectionist trade policies will also increase credit risks for Japanese and Korean automakers, certain sectors in India and parts of Southeast Asia such as computer and electronic products, and textiles could benefit from new growth prospects in the US. India's pharmaceutical and consumer electronics industries could benefit the most.

Highlighting that global companies will continue to divert investments from China to other parts of Asia Pacific (APAC) and the rest of the world, it said: "Asean and India could be attractive because they are receptive to foreign investments and their manufacturing competitiveness is increasing".

NEW DELHI: India is "cautiously optimistic" about the ongoing diplomatic-military talks with China to peacefully resolve the troop confrontation in eastern Ladakh, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday, while at the same time expressing full confidence in the Army to tackle any contingency if things go south along the frontier.

"Our optimism" about the talks with China is "dependent" on "actual progress" being made on the ground in terms of troop disengagement in eastern Ladakh, Singh said, addressing the Army commanders' conference at Gangtok.
