The Indian government on Thursday issued an advisory to its nationals in Bangladesh where a massive anti-quota protest killed six and injured hundreds. India has asked the Indian community members and students residing in Bangladesh to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel in view of the massive nationwide anti-quota stir that has rocked the country, triggering clashes between the protesters and the police.

LUCKNOW, India -- A passenger train derailed on Thursday in northern India, killing at least two passengers and injuring 20 others, a railroad official said. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

The train was on its way to Dibrugarh, a town in northeastern Assam state, from the northern city of Chandigarh when it derailed near the town of Gonda, causing six coaches to derail and two to overturn, Kumar said. Gonda is about 120 kilometers (70 miles) northeast of Lucknow, the state capital.

NEW DELHI: The Indian fintech industry is forecasted to reach approximately $110 billion by 2024 and $ 420 billion by 2029 according to Ajay Kumar Choudhary, Non-Executive Chairman and Independent Director of the National Payments Corporation of India.

Toshiba Group on Thursday said it will invest 10 bn Japanese yen (over Rs 500 crore) to increase the capacity of producing power transmission and distribution equipment in India.

NEW DELHI: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has maintained its global growth projections for 2024 at 3.2% in its latest World Economic Outlook update, released on Tuesday. Despite this, the organization has revised its forecasts for the United States and Japan downward, citing a slower-than-expected start to the year and temporary supply disruptions, respectively.

The IMF also highlighted potential risks to the global economy, including persistent inflation, trade tensions, and increased policy uncertainty.

In Asia, China and India are expected to be the main drivers of growth, with China's forecast revised upward to 5.0% in 2024 due to a rebound in private consumption and strong exports.

The IMF has revised its growth projection for India's economy in the 2024-25 financial year, increasing it from 6.8 per cent to 7 per cent.

India is among the "important markets" globally for Canon, where the Japanese multinational will continue its "double-digit growth" helped by a growing economy and demand, top company officials said on Wednesday.

The company sees India as a "high potential" market for its traditional products and services, ranging from imaging to printers business, said Canon Marketing Asia President & COO Tiger Ishii.

Besides India is also a growing market for its other verticals as commercial printing, health business (medical devices) and also sees a potential for its semiconductor business here, in which it produces lithography machines for chip manufacturing.

India is likely to do all it can to ensure the rupee keeps pace with the weakening Chinese yuan in order to protect its export competitiveness, according to Barclays Plc.

The depreciating yuan will put increasing pressure on India given the South Asian nation’s expanding trade deficit with China and the growing similarity in the two countries’ export profiles, Barclays analysts including Mitul Kotecha and Lemon Zhang in Singapore wrote in a research note.
