NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the political situation in Bangladesh after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amidst mounting protests.

Sheikh Hasina arrived at Hindon Air Base near New Delhi on Monday evening in a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft. The situation in Bangladesh remains fluid following Hasina's departure, leading to speculations about her next destination, with some reports suggesting London.

Experts have expressed concern that the unrest in Bangladesh could lead to instability in some areas of India.

KOLKATA/NEW DELHI: Travel to and from Dhaka, less than an hour away from Kolkata by air, was grounded Monday after a six-hour airport shutdown triggered by the upheaval in the Bangladesh capital set the stage for a spate of cancellations by airlines and left flyers bracing for the long haul.

BENGALURU, Aug 5 (Reuters) - KFC India operator Devyani International reported a better-than-expected first-quarter profit on Monday, as promotions and discounts drew customers in.

Consolidated net profit rose to 301.1 million rupees ($3.6 million) for the quarter ended June 30 from 117.6 million rupees a year ago.

Analysts, on average, expected a profit of 207.5 million rupees, as per LSEG data.

MUMBAI, Aug 5 (Reuters) - GooglePay, Walmart-backed PhonePe and AmazonPay are among five payment firms seeking to join the Indian central bank's digital currency pilot by offering transactions via the e-rupee, three sources directly involved in the discussions said.

Indian fintech firms Cred and Mobikwik are the other two that have applied to join the pilot, the sources added.

NEW DELHI: Tata group's bid to acquire a majority stake in Chinese smartphone giant Vivo's India business may have stalled after objections by Apple, sources told TOI.

Sources said Vivo (FY23 revenue: Rs 30,000 crore) was looking to offload 51% stake in its Indian subsidiary to the Tata group as part of its efforts to 'Indianise' operations in the face of govt pressure.

However, Apple was not comfortable with the transaction as its devices are being manufactured by the Tata group in Bangalore. "This has been one of the key reasons that scuttled the plan," a source said. "For Apple, any deal of the Tata group, its key manufacturing ally, with Vivo would have meant a partnership with a competitor. This perhaps led to the talks breaking down between Tatas and Vivo," the source said, adding that a "re-think looks highly unlikely 'as of now'."
