《水仙子·夜雨》是元代曲作家徐再思所作的一首散曲。这是一首悲秋感怀之作,独自下棋消遣,灯花落尽,棋局仍未撤去。深叹客旅他乡,十年一觉黄粱梦,功名未成;而父母留在家中,又未得回去服侍尽孝。这种种的烦忧一齐涌上心头,让人愁思百结,不但写伤秋的情怀,也包含了羁旅的哀怨,更有对父母的挂念。

Rainy Night
这是元代散曲家徐再思所写的一首游子思乡的散曲,以《夜雨》为题,通篇却不着一个“雨”字,而是从听觉入手,给秋以声,给芭蕉以愁,借“雨”写“愁”,将人生的失意与亲情相融,别出心裁。
This is a Sanqu poem written by Xu Zaisi in the Yuan Dynasty. Though titled “Rainy Night”, there is not a word “rain” in it. Starting with what’s being heard, it offers the sounds of autumn. By depicting the scene of Chinese banana, the abstract “grief” can be seen. The rainy weather adds to the melancholy, when the poet greif upon the frustrations of life and the parting from his family.

一声梧叶一声秋,一点芭蕉一点愁,三更归梦三更后。
落灯花,棋未收,叹新丰逆旅淹留。
枕上十年事,江南二老忧,都到心头。

曲作一开始梧桐叶落交代了时间,即深秋时节;用“一声”、“一点”形象描写了秋雨连绵不断;以雨打芭蕉营造情境,与寂寥旅人的愁绪自然和谐地共鸣起来,深化了曲子的意境。接着连用两个“三更”点出“归梦”之难成,为作者平添了一份乡愁,作者以一个“愁”字,点出全曲的感情基调。
In the beginning, the falling parasol leaves indicate the time, that is, late autumn. With “一声” (sigh) and “一点” (drops), it depicts vividly the continuous autumn rain. Creating a scene with rain drops on banana, it resonates naturally and harmoniously with the melancholy of lonely travelers, deepening the artistic conception of the poem. Then, by using “midnight” twice, it highlights the difficulty of realizing the dream of home-coming, which adds the emotion of nostalgia to the poet, who uses the word “grief” to set the tone for the entire piece.
雨夜下棋本为排遣愁闷,然而棋后懒于收捡,可见是越下越愁闷,正像李白所言“抽刀断水水更流,举杯消愁愁更愁”。而残灯照空局的景象,则进一步表现了深秋雨夜的凄凉和愁苦。作者联想到马周当年为新丰客般备受冷落,借用唐代名臣马周之典“叹新丰逆旅淹留”,感慨自己与马周境遇迥异,愁上添愁。一个“叹”字把自己羁旅异乡的孤寂,怀才不遇的愁闷,尽收其中。
Playing chess on a rainy night was originally meant to relieve melancholy, but after the chess game, chequers were left on chessboard, which showed that the poet got more melancholy. Just as Li Bai said, “Cut running water with a sword, it will faster flow; Drink wine to drown your sorrow, it will heavier grow.” The scene of a lonely chessboard by dim candlelight further expressed the desolation and sorrow of the late autumn rainy night. The poet made an association with Ma Zhou, a minister in the early Tang Dynasty, who was neglected when he stayed at Xinfeng Hostel when he was a mere commoner. By “How can a chequered man in an inn not sigh?”, he lamented their different circumstances and got more depressed. The word “sigh” fully conveyed the loneliness of living in a strange land and the melancholy of being unrecognized for his talent.
作者躺在床上回想十年来孤身一人漂泊在外的种种往事:年迈的父母远在江南,自己未尽孝还让二老担忧,如今功名也未成。于是,孤寂、怨恨、自责、思亲等种种愁苦“都到心头”,道出了深秋夜雨时心头为何事而愁苦。
The author lay on the bed and reminisced about the past decade of wandering alone: his elderly parents were far away in the south of the Yangtze River. He could not take care of them to show filial piety, but instead, the elder had to worry about him, and he had not achieved much so far. So, loneliness, resentment, remorse, homesickness and other sorrows all came into his heart, and that’s why he was grieving in the late autumn rainy night.
全曲语言简洁,风格自然清新,用典贴切自然,重词叠字和数词入曲则给人以回环复沓、一咏三叹之感,将旅人思乡的感情表现得淋漓尽致,感人肺腑。
The sanqu poem is concise in its language, with a natural and fresh style. Allusion is used appropriately and naturally. Meanwhile, the use of repeated words and numerals in the poem gives people an impression of being winding, tactful but profound, vividly and movingly portraying the homesickness of travelers.
