In the serene surroundings of M Oudenburg's
private residence lies a juxtaposition of modernity and antiquity. Nestled
within this neatly arranged garden stands a sleek, black contemporary
pool, contrasting with the adjacent aged brick-and-stone house. Designed by
Belgian interior architect Frederic Kielemoes, the house invites visitors on a
journey through art and design. Meandering along the pathway leading to
the residence, one treads upon natural stone as if stepping into the embrace of
nature itself. The entrance, narrow and intimate, offers a transition in space,
from the quiet confines of the corridor to the spaciousness within. The characteristics defining the work of Frederic
Kielemoes, seem to be an interplay between opposites. Yet, his designs are
pleasant, balanced spaces with a richness in materials, colours and detailing.
In their formal language, basic shapes such as the circle and the square are
strongly present. Frederic's designs often start with a similar sensibility,
before they get sculpted into refined, three dimensional environments. Indoors, the emphasis on natural materials
creates an ambiance imbued with the essence of the outdoors, with large timber
pieces and natural stone seamlessly integrated into the living spaces. Frederic demonstrates a skillful fusion of traditional
materials with modern techniques, employing reclaimed French stone for the
walls, infusing the private abode with a unique charm while remaining
environmentally conscious. In the arrangement of furnishings, he seeks a
harmonious balance between freedom and precision, ensuring that the forms of
the furniture seamlessly align with the spatial requirements.
During Frederic's master class within the
confines of the M Oudenburg residence, participants embarked on a captivating
journey delving into the essence of Belgian Minimalism. Frederic articulated
his vision, emphasizing the seamless fusion of contemporary aesthetics with
timeless elegance, transcending mere architectural principles. He explored the
symbiotic relationship between art and design, illuminated by the works of
influential artists like Alain Biltereyst and Dan Van Severen. Through
Frederic's insightful narrative, attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the
harmonious balance between calculated precision and intuitive creativity,
enriching our understanding of the intrinsic connection between artistry and
spatial design. In this setting, where modern aesthetics
blend harmoniously with natural elements, Frederic's discourse evolved beyond
conventional learning, becoming an immersive journey intricately woven with the
space itself. Seamlessly integrating theory with the space, Frederic shared his
unique perspectives on architecture, art, and design, offering profound
insights into his wellsprings of inspiration. The residence, a masterpiece in
its own right, served as a canvas for Frederic's master class, providing us with
a site-specific experience of engaging with the space on a deeper level.
