Named after the village of Tervuren, this breed was developed by crossing local herding dogs to create an intelligent and agile working dog. Their adaptability and keen sense of smell make them well-suited for various tasks. Tervurens are known for its long, dense, and double coat, which can range in color from fawn to mahogany, often with a black mask. The coat is thicker around the neck and shoulders, giving the dog a regal appearance. What a beauty!

The Laekenois (pronounced "lah-ken-wah") hails from the Laeken area of Brussels. Historically, these dogs were favored by Belgian nobility for livestock control and property protection. Their unique rough, wiry coat is well-suited for outdoor environments, providing excellent protection from the elements. Their distinctive coat not only adds to their striking appearance but also serves a functional purpose in harsh weather conditions. Among the four varieties, Laekenois are the least common and often less recognized outside Belgium.

The Groenendael variety is believed to have been created in 1885 by Nicholas Rose, owner of the Château de Groenendael. This breed is distinguished by its long, flowing black coat. Groenendaels have a well-proportioned head with a strong, square muzzle and a characteristic black mask, giving them an elegant and noble appearance. Wow, so beautiful!
During the First World War, Groenendaels were used by the Belgian Army to locate wounded soldiers and carry messages. The Groenendael remains the most numerous variety of the Belgian Shepherd dogs.
