On Saturday, September 28, 2024, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of our great motherland, a grand Chinese traditional culture exchange event themed "Chinese Heart, Chinese Roots, I Am Proud To Be Chinese" was held ceremoniously at the Victoria Shanghai Academy in Hong Kong. This event was not merely a culture feast but also a spiritual baptism, demonstrating the profound love and patriotism for the Party embodied by the Victoria (China) Education Group.

Mr. Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, GBS, IDSM, JP, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of Hong Kong feels gratified, believing that this not only deepens children's understanding and perception of Chinese traditional culture, but alsoplants the seeds of excellent Chinese traditional culture in their hearts,cultivating their patriotic feelings and contributing to the promotion of patriotic education.

Dr. Maria Tam Wai-chu, GBM, GBS, JP, Former Deputy Director of the Basic Law Committee of the National People's Congress for the Hong Kong SAR opened the event with a speech. 

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Maria Tam Wai-chu, GBM, GBS, JP, Former Deputy Director of the Basic Law Committee of the National People's Congress for the Hong Kong SAR expressed, "I am extremely pleased to join all of you in this significant event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The "Chinese Heart, Chinese Root, I am a Proud Chinese" activity allows children to feel cultural self-confidence from a young age. Hong Kong has a unique history and culture, but our roots are always firmly connected to our motherland. Chinese culture, with its long and rich history, is the greatest pride and joy in the heart of every Chinese person. I hope that in our daily lives, we can lead by example, becoming role models and guides for our children, helping them to understand and fall in love with Chinese culture. Through constant exposure and influence, they will naturally develop a sense of national identity, learn to respect the constitution, obey the law, and become good citizens who love both their country and Hong Kong."

At the ceremony, the guests pulled the cords to set off the ceremonial cannons.

Children from Victoria Kindergarten in Causeway Bay performed the flag-raising ceremony.


The children gave souvenirs to all the guests.

Study of Traditional Culture Courses

The event attracted the enthusiastic participation of organizations such as the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Victoria Families, Hong Kong Top Talent Services Association, and Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association. A total of more than 750 families, over 3,000 people were present, making it a grand and lively occasion. The children, dressed in Hanfu,  personally experiencing the charm of traditional culture and celebrating the birthday of their motherland together.

Expert Sharing, Mutual Benefit Through Teaching and Learning

At 10:25 am, the event officially kicked off. Dr. Maggie Koong, the Chief Principal of Victoria (China) Education Group, delivered an opening speech titled "Chinese Heart, Chinese Roots, I am a Proud To Be Chinese". She emphasized the importance of traditional cultural education in cultivating children's sense of national identity and cultural confidence.

Immediately afterwards, Professor Yu Yongping, former President of the China National Society of Early Childhood Education and a professor at Nanjing Normal University, gave an expert lecture titled "Immersing in Traditional Culture to Lay a Solid Foundation for a Beautiful Life". Professor Yu explained the essence of traditional Chinese culture and its application in modern education in a way that was both profound and easy to understand, inspiring everyone present.

Professor Yu Yongping pointed out that

"Kindergartens should strive to develop and utilize local tangible and intangible cultural heritage, traditional cultural knowledge, cultural activities, and resources to the greatest extent possible, in order to promote the comprehensive development of young children. This comprehensive development encompasses physical, cognitive, social, and spiritual/emotional aspects. The emphasis is on cultivating children's early and extensive exposure to, and participation in, local traditional cultural life and creativity, establishing a solid sense of cultural identity, and becoming inheritors and innovators of local traditional culture."

Teacher Workshop


Subsequently, several renowned early childhood education experts and kindergarten principals shared their insights on multicultural teaching of traditional Chinese culture.


They were Principal Ma Jiaxiang from the

Sun Fong Chung Kindergarten of the Hong Kong and Kowloon District Women's Association, who believes in "Passing on Chinese Culture, Starting from Sun Fong Chung Kindergarten", Principal Wang Minhua from theTing Sun Hui Chiu Kindergarten of the Hong Kong and Kowloon District Women's Association, advocating "Appreciating Chinese Culture Together", Principal Xiao Fang from the Victoria International Kindergarten in Causeway Bay, exploring " Diversified Implementation Paths of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture in Early Childhood Education", and Principal Wang Luodan from the Victoria Kindergarten in Suzhou Industrial Park, focusing on "Deeply Cultivating Wu Culture and Jointly Building a New Chapter in Traditional Culture Education: Exploration and Curriculum Development Practice of Community Resources". Each principal discussed the practical paths of traditional culture in early childhood education from different perspectives, providing valuable experience and inspiration for the participating teachers.

Professor Yu Yongping discussed the design of traditional cultural activities with the workshop teachers.

One of the teachers expressed that these methods and designs not only align with children's cognitive characteristics but also stimulate their interest in learning. For example, utilizing community resources for traditional culture education allows children to personally experience and feel the charm of traditional culture; through game-based teaching methods, children can learn about traditional cultural knowledge while playing. These methods and designs provide valuable references and lessons for their future teaching.

Professor Yu Yongping handwrote the two characters "Suzhou" as a gift to Suzhou Campus.


Cultural Inheritance Family Carnival

Ms. Christina Ting participated in the carnival activities with the children.


In the afternoon, the Cultural Inheritance Family Carnival was open to children under 6 years old and their parents. Themed around folk markets, literary masters, and historic palaces, the carnival featured 3 rich and fun game stalls. Accompanied by their parents, children experienced the charm of traditional culture in a joyful and educational way, gaining abundant cultural knowledge and cherished moments with their families.

Mr. Dong, the chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association from Shenzhen Victoria Park Academy, said, " Under the charm and strength of Dr. Koong, we have all been fortunate to witness the Chinese Traditional Culture National Day Celebration event jointly organized by 11 schools from both China and Hong Kong. Believing in the fantastic performance this time, there will surely be more interactions between VPA and VSA in the future. Together, we can share more professional and interesting Chinese traditional culture with more Hong Kong compatriots and even people from all over the world, making us more confident in our culture and prouder to be Chinese!".
