The new HUB at NIS, already a fantastic space for student and faculty learning, recently hosted the first ParentED session for our parents. ParentED offers the NIS community greater opportunities to learn more about our innovative approach to international education.
“Our aim is to help more parents engage and gain an even deeper insight and understanding of the school programmes here at NIS,” said Mr. Laurie McLellan, School Director. "Parent voice is important – it’s not just about what we as a school think parents need, but what they feel is essential to know."
Our first ParentED session centered on the International Baccalaureate (IB) learning framework, with a particular focus on the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes in Secondary (MYP and DP). The session, presented by the IB coordinators, and hosted in collaboration with the Senior Education Team and Parent Teacher Association (PTA), welcomed parents eager to gain a deeper understanding of the IB’s globally recognised and respected programme.
ParentED supports and enhances communication between parents and our school.
"We want to build a better dialogue,” said Ms. Sandra Chow, Director of Learning at NIS. “Through these sessions, parents can gain a clearer understanding of teaching and learning, while also providing feedback that helps us support them better."
"It’s all based on the idea of the 'learning triangle’,” added Mr. McLellan. “When students feel supported both at school and at home, they thrive. We’re working to ensure parents are a crucial part of that triangle."
“ParentED facilitates a two-way understanding of how we can support parents and how parents can support learning at home,” Ms. Chow explained. “We’re excited to offer many more of these sessions throughout the year.”
The ParentED initiative promises to be an invaluable resource for our inclusive learning community, fostering collaboration and dialogue between parents and teachers – helping to ensure everyone at NIS is empowered to support the holistic development of each student.
