灵枢·水胀 Miraculous Pivot · Water Swelling
黄帝问于岐伯曰：水与肤胀、鼓胀、肠覃、石瘕、石水，何以别之？The Yellow Emperor asked Qi Bo, "How can water swelling, cutaneous swelling, tympanites, intestinal mass (Chang Qin), stony mass (Shi Jia), and stony water be differentiated?"
岐伯曰：“水始起也，目窠上微肿，如新卧起之状，Qi Bo said, "When water swelling begins, there is slight swelling above the eye sockets, looking like the state just after getting up from sleep.
其颈脉动，时咳，阴股间寒，足胫肿，腹乃大，其水已成矣。The carotid artery pulsates, there is occasional coughing, there is coldness in the medial aspect of the thigh, the lower legs are swollen, and the abdomen becomes enlarged. Then the water swelling has formed.
以手按其腹，随手而起，如裹水之状，此其候也。”When pressing the abdomen with the hand, it rebounds immediately, just like the state of being wrapped with water. These are the symptoms."
黄帝曰：肤胀何以候之？The Yellow Emperor asked, "How can cutaneous swelling be diagnosed?"
岐伯曰：“肤胀者，寒气客于皮肤之间，(上鼓下空)(上鼓下空)然不坚，Qi Bo said, "In cutaneous swelling, pathogenic cold invades between the skin. The swelling is bulging on the upper part and hollow on the lower part, not firm.
腹大，身尽肿，皮厚，按其腹窅而不起，腹色不变，此其候也。”The abdomen is enlarged, the whole body is swollen, the skin is thick. When pressing the abdomen, it does not rebound, and the color of the abdomen does not change. These are the symptoms."
鼓胀何如？The Yellow Emperor asked, "What about tympanites?"
岐伯曰：腹胀身皆大，大与肤胀等也，色苍黄，腹筋起，此其候也。Qi Bo said, "In tympanites, the abdomen and the whole body are enlarged, which is similar to the degree of enlargement in cutaneous swelling. The color is bluish-yellow, and the abdominal muscles are prominent. These are the symptoms."
肠覃何如？The Yellow Emperor asked, "What about intestinal mass (Chang Qin)?"
岐伯曰：“寒气客于肠外，与卫气相搏，气不得荣，因有所系，癖而内着，恶气乃起，瘜肉乃生。Qi Bo said, "Pathogenic cold invades outside the intestine and contends with the defensive qi. The qi fails to nourish, and due to being restricted, it adheres internally. Pathogenic qi then arises and polyps are generated.
其始生也，大如鸡卵，稍以益大，至其成，如怀子之状，When it first forms, it is as big as a chicken egg. Gradually, it gets larger. When it is fully formed, it looks like being pregnant.
久者离岁，按之则坚，推之则移，月事以时下，此其候也。”If it has been there for a long time, even for years, when pressing it, it is firm, and when pushing it, it can be moved. The menstrual period still occurs regularly. These are the symptoms."
石瘕何如？The Yellow Emperor asked, "What about stony mass (Shi Jia)?"
岐伯曰：“石瘕生于胞中，寒气客于子门，子门闭塞，气不得通，恶血当泻不泻，衄（别本作衃）以留止，Qi Bo said, "The stony mass (Shi Jia) occurs in the uterus. Pathogenic cold invades the cervix, causing the cervix to be blocked, so the qi cannot circulate. The static blood that should be discharged is not discharged, and it accumulates and stays there.
日以益大，状如怀子，月事不以时下，皆生于女子，可导而下。”Day by day, it gets larger, looking like being pregnant. The menstrual period does not occur regularly. All these occur in women and can be treated by guiding it downward."
黄帝曰：肤胀、鼓胀可刺邪？The Yellow Emperor asked, "Can cutaneous swelling and tympanites be treated by acupuncture?"
岐伯曰：先泻其胀之血络，后调其经，刺去其血络也。Qi Bo said, "First, drain the blood vessels related to the swelling, and then regulate the meridians. Acupuncture is used to drain the blood vessels."
