Miraculous Pivot · Wei Qi

黄帝曰:“五脏者,所以藏精神魂魄者也;The Yellow Emperor said, "The five zang-organs are where the spirit, essence, hun (the ethereal soul), and po (the corporeal soul) are stored;

the six fu-organs are where water and grains are received and transformed. Their qi enters the five zang-organs internally and connects with the limbs and joints externally.

The qi that floats and does not follow the regular meridians is called Wei Qi; the essence qi that travels along the meridians is called Ying Qi.

Yin and Yang follow each other, and the internal and external are interconnected like an endless ring, flowing continuously and steadily. Who can fully understand it?

However, when distinguishing between Yin and Yang, there are all aspects such as the root and branch, deficiency and excess, and the places where they separate.

能别阴阳十二经者,知病之所生;(知)候虚实之所在者,能得病之高下;Those who can distinguish the twelve meridians of Yin and Yang will know where diseases originate; those who can detect the locations of deficiency and excess will be able to determine the levels of diseases;

知六腑之气街者,能知解结契绍于门户;those who know the qi streets of the six fu-organs will be able to understand how to untie knots and connect passages like opening and closing doors;

those who know the hardness and softness of deficiency and excess will know where to apply tonification and purgation; those who know the root and branch of the six meridians will have no doubts in the medical field."

Qi Bo said, "How profound is the Emperor's discussion! Please allow me to explain it in detail.

The root of the Foot Taiyang Meridian is five cun above the heel, and its branch is at the two collaterals of the Mingmen. The Mingmen here refers to the eyes.

The root of the Foot Shaoyang Meridian is between the Qiao Yin, and its branch is in front of the Window Cage. The Window Cage here refers to the ears.

The root of the Foot Shaoyin Meridian is three cun above and below the medial malleolus, and its branch is at the back transport points and the two veins under the tongue.

The root of the Foot Taiyin Meridian is four cun above the Zhong Feng, and its branch is at the back transport points and the root of the tongue.

The root of the Hand Taiyang Meridian is behind the lateral malleolus, and its branch is one cun above the Mingmen.

When observing these, if the lower part is deficient, there will be jue (syncope); if the lower part is excessive, there will be heat; if the upper part is deficient, there will be dizziness; if the upper part is excessive, there will be heat and pain.

Therefore, for those with excess (in the "Medical Complete Records", it should be "excess" instead of "stone"), it should be stopped by purgation; for those with deficiency, it should be raised by tonification.

Now let's talk about the qi streets(The route of the running of meridian qi). There are qi streets in the chest, in the abdomen, in the head, and in the shins.

故气在头者,止之于脑;气在胸者,止之膺与背腧;So, for the qi in the head, it stops at the brain; for the qi in the chest, it stops at the chest and the back transport points;

For the qi in the abdomen, it stops at the back transport points, the Chong Meridian, and the arteries on both sides of the umbilicus; for the qi in the shins, it stops at the qi street and from the Cheng Shan to the area above and below the ankle.

When needling these areas, use a filiform needle. First, press firmly for a long time until you feel a response in your hand, and then insert the needle.

The conditions treated include headache, dizziness, fainting, abdominal pain, sudden fullness and distension in the middle, and new accumulations.

If the pain can be shifted, it is easier to cure; if the accumulation is painless, it is more difficult to cure."
