Not All Heroes Wear Capes: Superhero Day at Jiahui

文摘   2024-11-06 17:00   上海

Not all heroes wear capes. The heroes at Jiahui wear scrubs and white coats. Recently, preschoolers from Lotus Family School had the chance to meet these everyday heroes during a visit to Jiahui International Hospital, as part of their superhero-themed learning unit.

Leading the way was Jiahui’s pediatrician, Dr. Ahmed Arafat, who guided 16 curious preschoolers through the vibrant Pediatrics department—a space thoughtfully designed just for kids. Dr. Arafat invited the students into his consultation room, where he introduced them to his toolkit for check-ups, which included stethoscopes, otoscopes, and ophthalmoscopes. Each preschooler eagerly awaited their turns to get their hands on the instruments.

Continuing their adventure, the children toured various specialized areas, including the Pediatrics ENT room, pediatric operation room, X-ray room, and in-patient wards. Each stop revealed a new facet of healthcare, giving them a glimpse of what their medical heroes do everyday and the role they play to help others feel better.

Thank You Cards

As a gesture of gratitude, the preschoolers crafted thank you cards after the hospital tour, using glitter, glue, and ribbons for Jiahui’s doctors and nurses.

Richmond, one of the teachers, reflected on the experience, saying,

This was a very insightful event for our students. They were very curious about the different departments and work that the doctors do. I hope all my students become helpful human beings and superheroes in their own communities.

Through this meaningful interaction, the children not only learned about healthcare but also discovered that true heroism comes in many forms.
