The penultimate week of November in late autumn smells of competitive sports over the sky of Tokyo, where young athletes from six German schools abroad from East Asia compete in six sports arts including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, soccer and volleyball. Preparations began months in advance and the students trained intensively.
Two sports teams the German School Shanghai Hongqiao (DSSH) and the German School Shanghai Yangpu (DSSY) from the German School Shanghai (DSS) also showed their extraordinary courage and team spirit. Not only did both teams get good results in individual events and team competitions, 14 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze medals, DSSH also won in second place right behind the host team the German School Tokyo, Yokohama (DSTY).
The young athletes demonstrated an equally outstanding team spirit and cohesion, supporting each other and celebrating their successes together, the sportsmanship and teamwork that is displayed in every fight is what we really bring back home, back to life and can nourish our lives and guide our future. The biennial East Asian Games (OAS) 2024 ended with a festive closing ceremony, during which the torch was passed to the DSS as the 2026 host city.
