What changes in your children at this school have surprised you?

I have been most pleasantly surprised by the remarkable improvement in my child's emotional management and concentration. Through mindfulness and meditation practices, they have become calmer and more disciplined. For instance, they used to get easily distracted while doing homework, but now they can focus and complete tasks more efficiently. They also handle stress better, especially before exams, by using techniques like deep breathing to relieve tension.

Have you heard any great growth stories from this school?

Yes, I've heard of many children developing deep thinking skills through philosophy lessons, and some who were once very shy have gained the confidence to speak in public. For example, one classmate was barely able to speak up in class when they first joined the school, but after several discussions in philosophy class, they not only expressed their ideas confidently but also won an award in the school’s speech contest. The school really helps children to grow from the inside out.

What ideas do you like about this school?

I especially appreciate the school’s concept of "whole-person education." The focus isn't just on academic growth; the school also emphasises spiritual and emotional development. For example, their philosophy curriculum encourages children to explore questions like "Who am I?" and "What is my place in the world?" This helps my child develop a deeper self-awareness and understanding of the world from an early age.

What courses do you appreciate at this school?

I really enjoy the Sanskrit and Latin lessons offered at the school. These classes not only expose my child to different cultures but also help develop their logical thinking. For instance, learning Sanskrit, with its complex grammatical structures, has gradually improved my child’s language analysis skills, which is also beneficial for learning other languages and subjects.

What have you learned as a parent at this school?

As a parent, I've learned how to support my child's growth more effectively by focusing not just on grades but also on helping them manage their emotions and stay focused. For example, I’ve started practicing mindfulness meditation with my child, which has also benefited me in my work and daily life.

What aspects of this school have touched you?

What touched me most is the school’s dining culture. All the children have dinner with their teachers, and they express silent gratitude before meals. For instance, the children give thanks for the source of the food and the efforts of those who prepared it. This ritual not only teaches them gratitude but also helps them appreciate the value of food.

Do you think this school can help alleviate some of the current educational anxieties?

Yes, the school has helped ease a lot of parental anxiety through its mindfulness curriculum and emphasis on holistic development. I used to worry about my child's grades, but now I value their growth process and inner peace more. The school has created an environment where academic scores are not the only measure of success.

What do you think of the children’s performance at this school?

My child’s academic achievements remain at a high level, but more importantly, the school’s curriculum teaches them how to think critically and solve problems. For example, in the mathematics course, they not only mastered calculation skills but also learned to apply mathematical thinking to real-life problems, which is incredibly useful.

What do you think has enabled this school to operate successfully for 35 years?

I believe the school’s successful operation for 35 years is due to its unique educational philosophy and dedicated teachers. The school maintains a low teacher-student ratio, ensuring that each child receives personalised attention. For example, teachers care not only about academic progress but also frequently communicate with parents about their children’s psychological and emotional development.

How does this school compare with other private schools?

Like other private schools, this school values academic achievement, but what sets it apart is its focus on the inner growth of children. While many private schools emphasise achievement rankings, Erasmus Primary School nurtures children’s inner world, helping them grow both academically and emotionally through lessons in meditation, gratitude, and philosophy.

Do you think there are "pain points" in education today?

Yes, a significant pain point in education today is the overemphasis on scores and rankings, which often overlooks children's mental health and emotional development. Many schools struggle to help children manage stress, but Erasmus Primary School addresses this through mindfulness courses and personalised education, helping children remain calm under pressure.

What do you think "good education" should look like?

I believe good education should be comprehensive, focusing not just on academic success but also on the mental, emotional, and social development of children. By combining philosophy, mindfulness, art, and academic courses, Erasmus Primary School produces confident, responsible, and creative individuals.
