As summer draws to a close, the multiple Summer School programmes organised by the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) have successfully concluded. Leveraging the extensive teaching experience of its academic staff, CELE has capitalised on the advantages of small class teaching methods, an international environment, and a progressive approach to create a comprehensive learning platform. This platform integrated academic enhancement, language improvement, and cultural exchange, helping students achieve significant advancements in their English proficiency within a short period. This experience has laid a solid foundation for their future academic pursuits and personal development.

"An Academic Launchpad for Future Leaders"

This programme, jointly developed by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China and its affiliated high school, combines UNNC's quality educational resources with the high school's unique teaching characteristics. It provides an immersive English learning environment for incoming international students of the affiliated high school, enhancing both their language proficiency and overall learning abilities while offering an early taste of vibrant university life. Through meticulously-designed IELTS courses, engaging study skills workshops, and a variety of extracurricular activities, students not only made significant progress in their English language skills but also experienced comprehensive growth in teamwork and leadership, laying a strong foundation for their future academic journeys.
UNNC Summer School
"Exploring Language and Culture through a Global Lens"

The UNNC Summer School was more than just an academic exploration; it was a testament to personal growth. 53 outstanding high school students from 21 cities across China came together to experience a fusion of knowledge and culture.
CELE’s academic English courses, centred on small class sizes and a progressive teaching system, allowed students to systematically consolidate and enhance their English foundation while achieving significant progress in academic English skills, preparing them well for future university studies.
Beyond language learning, the UNNC Summer School also focused on enhancing academic literacy. The programme included a rich array of academic courses covering multiple disciplines. Through specialized courses in finance, economics, virtual and augmented reality, and electronic circuits, students gained a deeper understanding of these fields, sparking their interest and reflection on future academic paths. By participating in academic lectures, seminars, and group discussions, students learned to think independently, analyse problems, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
In addition to academic achievements, the Summer School provided students with the "Masterclass", allowing them to engage closely with professors and industry professionals. Furthermore, a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports nights, team-building events, and talent shows, helped students uncover their limitless potential.
International University Experience Summer School for China Agricultural University
"Cultivating Global Elites"

This programme, tailored for students from China Agricultural University, offered an unforgettable experience that combined academic, cultural, and practical elements through diverse course offerings, corporate visits, and cultural excursions.
In the area of academic English, CELE’s expert team focused particularly on English presentation skills within the field of sustainable development, aiming to enhance students' ability to express themselves professionally in this domain. Through interactive sessions such as simulated presentations, group discussions, and case analyses, students not only acquired practical presentation skills but also deepened their understanding and reflection on sustainable development issues.
Another highlight of this Summer School was its interdisciplinary research approach. The classes featured top faculty from various UNNC schools, covering fields such as economics, computer science, and humanities. This interdisciplinary faculty provided students with a rare learning opportunity, stimulating their interdisciplinary thinking and promoting the integration and innovation of knowledge across different fields.
Moreover, the Summer School emphasized the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application. Through visits to leading local companies, students had the opportunity to learn how to apply their knowledge to real-world situations, deepening their understanding of their professional studies.
