Exceptional personal, medical and/or difficult and distressing events that are outside their control and that negatively affect their ability to complete assessments and their academic performance. Such circumstances are known as 'Extenuating Circumstances (ECs)'.

• Cases where a student has not had appropriate adjustment in the current academic session due to a late diagnosis of a disability or long-term medical condition

• Claims must be submitted before the coursework deadline

• Claims must be submitted prior to, or within five working days of, the examination/assessment

医疗类证明材料须满足：

• 来自二甲及以上医院提供的加盖医院公章的正式医疗诊断证明或正式出院报告，需同时提供原件和来自翻译机构的英文翻译件。

  
  

• 来自校医务室的同等效力的医疗诊断证明。

Supporting Materials of Medical Conditions:

A letter of medical diagnosis issued by appropriate medical professional at AA or AA+ hospital in China with the hospital's stamp confirming the nature of the illness and the likely impact it is having on the student’s ability to undertake formal assessment and/or study. Both original copies of evidence and English translation copies made by translation institution should be provided.

Exam: Further exam opportunity in next available time

Coursework: Coursework extension up to 15 working days

Coursework: If EC claims are approved, students shall follow new deadline to submit the coursework. If EC claims are not subsequently approved, original marks of submitted work in accordance with Policy on penalties for late submission of assessed work will be released to students. Non-submission of coursework will be recorded as a mark of zero.

Exam: If students have attended the exam(s) and the EC claim is approved in which students are granted further exam attempt(s), the previous exam(s) will not be marked, or the mark will be voided. Students must attend the EC-granted exam(s) to gain a mark for this exam(s). If students are absent from EC-granted exam attempt(s), a mark of zero will be recorded.

Outcome: EC claim was accepted in which a further exam opportunity of the exam is granted. The original mark of the exam is 55 but the mark is voided.

After completion of the EC-granted exam in August of that academic year, the student achieved a mark of 40, the mark of 40 is recorded.

In the case the student does not attend the EC-granted exam, a mark of zero will be recorded.

王同学在计算机代码课交作业前因为生病住院了一星期，12月13日周五DDL当天上午王同学出院了(DDL下午3点)，除了同意出院以外，在王同学的出院报告上没有其他医嘱。王同学出院后随即交了EC申请并附上了出院报告和翻译件，希望作业能够延期8天再交。

结果1：EC获批，同意延期5个工作日至12月20日周五下午3点提交作业

结果2：EC被拒

A student was ill and hospitalized one week before the deadline of a piece of coursework, after one week medical treatment, the student was discharged on the same day of coursework due date - 3.00pm Fri 13 Dec, there is no additional medical advices shown on discharge report. The student submits an EC claim and discharge note on 13 Dec to request for additional eight-day extension. 

Outcome1:  When EC claim is approved with 5 working days extension, new deadline is 3.00pm on 20 Dec.

Outcome2: When EC claim is rejected
