The CEO of Northvolt, Peter Carlsson, today resigned amongst ongoing fallout from the Swedish EV battery maker’s U.S. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

The co-founder of the company, Carlsson has been CEO of Northvolt since 2016, leading it to create the first battery gigafactory in Europe, but admitted today that it needed around US$1.2 billion in financing to restore its operation.

While Aaltonen-Forsell takes over the interim CEO’s role, Northvolt’s President of Matthias Arleth, will become Chief Operations Officer, with Scott Millar appointed as Chief Restructuring Officer.

NorthVolt produces lithium-ion, sodium-ion and lithium-metal cells. Its cells are used by the Porsche and Audi brands of its biggest shareholder, the Volkswagen Group, and last year it revealed a 1.5-million kilometer battery pack for Scania electric trucks and tractors.
